ORGANIC IS NOT TOXIC WHEN USED AS DEFINED
& (RA) IS NOT ORGANIC
Roger Kerr thank you for this work and for making the fundamental distinctions clearly while proving Regenerative Agriculture (RA) is a dangerous philosophical axiom, a distraction from the work, mission and identity of natural growing systems. In the 7 tendencies R Rodale coined a term (although it was not the first use or nomenclature) and process that would -amplify- Organic. He did not intend a -definition- for anything such as (RA). Recently, the run up to installation of CSA in the US, see publicity releases picked up as news, TED talks, movies and sponsored (RA) coverage all contributing to the metrics. All this meant to "create" metrics and data points to shape meaning, credibility and definition. In empirical terms it is incapable of doing so. The Wageningen database of 279 published research articles on (RA) is significant for the details on nomenclature, usage and the absence of definition. Many advocates fail to assess or analyze such findings perpetrating (RA) cloaked in a range of definitive assertions where there are none. The mashup of legacy principles and progenitor work are assembled to form positions using a "Frankenstein" interpretation. This has been and is my salient point on (RA). As you say worrying, however, now that much of the (RA) practitioners have acquiesced to #Agtech dangerous. One self appointed "definer" of (RA) has a trifurcated conclusion based entirely on philosophical axiom. Two of the elements are (paraphrase) "everything for everybody" and any use of toxins is permitted. Yet another advocate laughs on podcasts about a definition and markets biostimulants. I agree some (RA) initiatives are worthwhile, but should be defined through the actual practice dominating in their fields. Another "(RA) expert" makes continual assertions that "they" have taken all elements (agroecological, organic, et al) and placed them into the (RA) basket. As you say, there is no clarity and the alignment with #Agtech is alarming and not only for the permission that alignment provides for the use of hazardous synthetics, biostimulants, syntheic biology, fertilizers, gmo and adjuvants modified or altered crops and threats to our ecosystems, it also means young farmers will be confused as to meaning and application and we cannot afford to lose another generation of young farmers. (RA) rose from R Rodale (articulating Masanobu Fukuoku) to expand Organic. I could not agree more that [...] "...organic already clearly enshrines the best of regenerative agriculture’s principles..." I have presented these facts for a decade and I welcome your work as proof of my position, a gift to natural farming, and a means to begin neutralizing the misconception of a philosophical axiom and marketing gambit that laughs at definition and permits toxic inputs. Final thought: I remind them they offer no original thinking, and for such they should look to Sir Albert Howard and Eve Balfour.
Soil Association and OF&G (Organic Farmers & Growers CIC) have been working together to shine a light on the positive outcomes that organic delivers. This latest collaboration has led to the development of a series of infographics that clearly position organic's restorative approach within the context of other farming systems.
The graphics have been produced in response to increasingly confusing and conflated messaging around regenerative and organic. Our aim is to provide greater clarity by identifying the differences and commonalities between alternative farming practices.
We continue to take a pragmatic approach to how best to support our organic licensees and engage with other interested parties.
Our intention was to create some reference materials that demonstrate how organic tackles the fundamental challenges that our food systems and environment face.
