This decision, announced by the DOE, allows for adjustments in energy efficiency standards, granting companies extended timelines to utilize the steel produced at the facility. Governor Josh Shapiro has hailed the decision, emphasizing its significance in preserving the #steel production lineage in Western Pennsylvania. Congressman Mike Kelly attributed the reversal directly to the resounding community opposition, highlighting the impact of the Butler community's unified stance against the initial ruling. Cleveland Cliffs, in a statement, expressed appreciation for the decision, foreseeing an upsurge in demand for their Grain-Oriented Electrical Steel. They anticipate this to potentially pave the way for future investments and expansions. 100 Years.  100-Years ago, the Battle Creek Power Plant began commercial operations using a combination of six Babcock & Wilcox boilers connected to a single Westinghouse turbine/generator to generate electricity. The plant served many purposes including the validation that safe, reliable, and cost competitive generation could be accomplished through purpose-built assets designed and equipped to take advantage of increased efficiencies through economies of scale. The Station, known as “The Great Power Link Between East & West Michigan” operated until June 1970 when it was retired in recognition of advances within generation assets related to safety, cost competitiveness, and planetary impacts. Much has changed in the past 100 years but amidst the change, energy availability remains an integral building block for health and well-being.  When you take inflation into consideration, the average cost of electricity in 1924 was $1.29 kWhr, whereas the average cost in 2024 is $0.19kWhr, that is a cost reduction of 7x’s. What other critical service has seen a 7-fold price decrease in the last 100-years while improving upon the expectation and delivery of safe, reliable, and predictably available service without interruption?

Great to see bipartisan leadership on this vital issue. Our antiquated permitting system has held back our economic growth. Steel supports growth from manufacturing to the energy sector and beyond. The EPA’s Power Plant Rule threatens the welfare of our society. This is not an exaggeration. Reliable electricity is crucial for all aspects of the economy. Affordable, reliable electricity provides for the general health and wellbeing of people all across this county. The EPA rule cannot become effective. There are no viable alternatives.

When Dominion employees visited the company’s facility, they met a group that was willing to share information and detailed engineering data. Dominion employees have been able to work directly with the people making the composite poles. In fact, when the Dominion team visited the manufacturer, CCG took a pole off the line and showed Dominion how to drill it. NYSERDA has issued a Request for Information seeking input from potential stakeholders in various sectors about the planning, deployment, operation, and maintenance of Direct Current Fast Charging Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (DCFC EVSE) in New York. This RFI is designed to help NYSERDA understand the challenges faced by market participants, which will inform the development of future DCFC implementation solicitations. This inquiry will influence NYSERDA’s Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) grant program, which aims to lower the costs of purchasing and installing DCFC EVSE in New York State, thereby promoting quicker adoption of Electric Vehicles (EV). This initiative will benefit New York State by lowering harmful emissions and reducing the transportation sector’s reliance on petroleum.
