📈 Towards a more competitive and secure Europe 📈 Tomorrow, the European Climate Neutrality Observatory (ECNO) is launching its second EU-wide progress report. It will provide an update on the progress towards EU climate neutrality based on new data and will highlight crucial areas of action for incoming policymakers. Our Deputy Executive Director Suzana Carp will share our vision on how to build up a carbon-neutral European industrial base, on a panel with ArcelorMittal’s Robert Jan Jeekel. Europe currently has a unique opportunity to accelerate its path towards green industrial leadership, and strengthen its economic competitiveness in the ongoing global cleantech race. To that end, we look forward to connecting with all who join the event! Excellent exchange today with Maroš Šefčovič to present the business and investor letter supporting at least 90% emissions reductions by 2040. Corporate Leaders Groups members and allies were able to discuss concrete investments in decarbonisation in Europe, whether in electrifying manufacturing sites, engaging across value chains to drive decarbonised electrification of industry, developing new heat pump technologies, rolling out new digital tools or showing how they have decoupled emissions from their growth.
Today, CLG Europe brought together a group of leading companies to discuss with Maroš Šefčovič, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, setting a climate target of at least 90% by 2040 and how to meet sustainability and competitiveness objectives in practice. 🌍 Many thanks to all CLG Europe members who joined us in this discussion, demonstrating that businesses are playing a key role to translate climate and sustainability objectives in their practices. Businesses are ready to work with policymakers in the journey toward climate neutrality. His Majesty King Frederik X of Denmark is visiting Poland over the next two days upon invitation of the President of the Republic of Poland. Danfoss is proud to be part of the Danish business delegation joining the King to promote sustainable technologies that can tackle the world’s challenges. As one of the world’s leading technology companies pioneering the green transition, we will take active part in the energy-themed areas of the royal visit. At Danfoss, we have the solutions to help our customers decarbonize and they can be seen in action at our Grodzisk factory. Inaugurated in 1998, in the presence of his Majesty the King, then in his role as Crown Prince, Grodzisk became Danfoss first CO2 neutral factory in 2021, following three steps: ✅ Reducing energy consumption by improving energy efficiency ✅ Reusing the energy that is already being produced e.g. using excess heat ✅ Re-sourcing the remaining demand from renewable sources Decarbonizing factory sites is possible all over the world. The greenest energy is the energy we don’t use. Let’s get to work. Discover the Decarbonization Path and learn about the three key steps to climate neutrality. https://bit.ly/3HIqAsR

Last week I had the opportunity to present my credentials to Young Tae Kim, Secretary-General of the International Transport Forum (ITF), an increasingly important organization within the OECD family. Brazil had become a full member of ITF last May. We discussed the work of ITF, its cooperation with Brazil, the prospects of sustainable transport projects in Brazil and South America, as well as the role of transport in energy transition and climate neutrality - a critical topic that is analysed in ITF Transport Oulook 2023 (https://lnkd.in/ekkyJB4y). https://lnkd.in/ejWvqYVD

📢 The following statements in the Strategic Agenda 2024-2025 document published by the EU indicate a weakening of the will to implement the European Green Deal 👇 "On our path to climate neutrality by 2050, we will be pragmatic and harness the potential of the green and digital transitions to create the markets, industries and high-quality jobs of the future. We will provide a stable and predictable framework and create a more supportive environment for scaling up Europe’s manufacturing capacity for net-zero technologies and products. We will invest in ample cross-border infrastructure for energy, water, transport and communications."

In March 2024, Germany shifted its stance on carbon capture and storage (CCS), embracing it as a crucial climate mitigation option. The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action announced key points for inclusion in the upcoming Carbon Management Strategy, highlighting CCS's role in reaching carbon neutrality. Germany, as the EU's largest economy and emitter, repositioned CCS as part of its climate agenda. The government introduced a bill to amend the Carbon Dioxide Storage Act, paving the way for CCS progress. The focus is on developing CCS infrastructure and implementing support mechanisms, crucial for achieving climate neutrality by 2045.
