🕊️ In Memory of James Rourke: A Call for Action on Workplace Safety 🕊️ The recent tragedy at Sarazen Gardens, where young James Rourke lost his life in a preventable accident, has deeply saddened us at H21 Safety. Our hearts go out to James' family, who have suffered an irreplaceable loss. This incident is a sobering reminder of the critical importance of workplace safety and the devastating impact of its neglect. James, a bright and cherished young man, had his future cut tragically short due to a failure in planning, managing, and supervising work on site. This serves as a poignant call to action for all of us involved in creating and enforcing safety standards in the workplace. What We Can Learn: Vigilance is Non-Negotiable: Employers must rigorously enforce safety protocols and ensure that all work, especially involving heavy machinery, is planned and supervised to prevent such tragedies. Education and Training: Comprehensive training for all employees on safety practices and the importance of vigilance can save lives. A Culture of Safety: We must cultivate an environment where every team member feels responsible for the safety of their colleagues and empowered to speak up against unsafe practices. As we reflect on this heartbreaking incident, let's recommit to making safety our top priority. Let James' story inspire us to strive for a future where no family has to endure such a loss. We stand with the Rourke family in their grief and in their call for justice and safety for all workers. James, your memory will serve as a catalyst for change. You will not be forgotten. 🖤 #RememberingJames #WorkplaceSafety 🖤

Facilitaed by our WHS team and SSE, Mick Barry, EQ Resources recently took another step towards bolstering its #safetyculture with an event called Stop and Prop. Imagine gathering everyone on site, from the frontline crew to the office staff, to focus on one thing: making their workplace safer. That's exactly what happened, and it wasn't just any meeting. We were honoured to host Garry Nichols, a Workplace Health and Safety Queensland Advocate to share his story as an amputee and provide insights that really made everyone think about how they approach safety every day. Here are the highlights on what this initiative was all about: 🛑Stop and Prop Initiative: We hit the pause button on the regular day-to-day, to remind us all of the EQR values and talk about how everyone can contribute to a safer work environment. 🗣Guest Speaker : First hand experiences and insights bravely shared amongst peers can change how we see things. A real reminder on the importance of safety practices and avoiding complacency in the workplace. 💭A Learning Moment: This wasn’t about ticking boxes. It was a genuine opportunity for everyone at EQ Resources to deepen their understanding and commitment to safety across the Mt Carbine site. ⁉️But why is this so important? Because, it ties back to a bigger picture in Queensland’s mining industry. This initiative aligns with findings from "The state of safety reporting culture in Queensland’s mining industry" ,a recent survey that delivered some interesting findings: ➡️Positive Findings: Strong team support for safety among mine workers. Adherence to safety standards and reporting of concerns is encouraged. ➡️Areas for Improvement: Enhancing the clarity and ease of use of reporting systems. Increasing recognition of positive safety behaviors. Involving frontline workers more in safety initiatives. 👷♀️👷🏽♂️We believe that by facilitating conversation, we are nudging our colleagues to have a hard look at how things are done and encouraging discussion on how they can be done better. It’s about building a culture where safety isn’t just a poster on the wall but a real, living thing that everyone is part of. Now, that’s something worth talking about. #worksafehomesafe #actsafefeelsafe #safework #safety #miningsafety Survey is available from the Comissioner for Resources Safety and Health's website.

In 2012, the Grenzebach Group began working with the Georgia Tech Occupational Safety and Health group (SHES) to pursue OSHA’s Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) certification. SHARP recognizes small businesses that operate exemplary safety and health programs. To qualify for SHARP, Grenzebach — and all businesses — must: - Request comprehensive consultation visits in safety and health that include a hazard identification survey. - Involve employees in the consultation process. - Correct all hazards identified by the consultant. - Implement and maintain health and safety programs as specified by OSHA. - Maintain days away, restricted, or transferred (DART) rates and total recordable case (TRC) rates below the national industry average. - Agree to notify the state consultant prior to making changes to working conditions in a facility. A big benefit of becoming SHARP certified is that companies are granted an exemption from OSHA programmed inspections for up to two years and subsequent renewal for up to three years. Curious to know how Grenzebach, a leading material handling manufacturer, tackled safety challenges head-on and achieved a phenomenal 85% reduction in recordable incidents? Discover how this family-run company based in Germany, with a facility in Newnan, Georgia, transformed its safety culture and became a shining example of excellence in workplace safety. 👉 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gTDMeSPP #SafetySuccessStory #WorkplaceSafety #SHARP #SafetyCulture #Grenzebach #GeorgiaTech #TransformationalLeadership #NIST #MEPNationalNetwork

#13 From Dominoes to Modern Safety: The Legacy of Heinrich's Domino Theory of Accident Causation Imagine a row of dominoes, each one standing precariously, ready to topple with a single push. This was the groundbreaking visualization Herbert W. Heinrich introduced in the 1930s with his Domino Theory of Accident Causation. Heinrich’s insight was simple yet profound: workplace accidents result from a chain of events, and if we address the root causes early, we can stop the domino effect and prevent accidents before they happen. Heinrich's theory has shaped the field of occupational health and safety for decades. It taught us that unsafe acts and conditions are the starting points of accidents, emphasizing the importance of proactive safety measures. However, our understanding of workplace safety has evolved. Today, we recognize that focusing solely on individual behavior is not enough. Modern safety management considers the complex interplay of organizational culture, management practices, and systemic issues. By building on Heinrich’s foundational work, we now embrace comprehensive safety models that address a broader range of factors. This evolution ensures that our workplaces are not just safer, but more resilient. As we continue to innovate and improve our safety practices, Heinrich’s dominoes remind us of the critical importance of addressing root causes to prevent accidents and protect our most valuable asset: our people. #WorkplaceSafety #HeinrichDominoTheory #ProtectOurPeople #ExploringOSH
