Hi everyone, I am very pleased to share my next article 'Developing Student Comprehension of Historical Significance', collaborating with Teacher Magazine to discuss how History teachers may best explore historical meta-concepts with their classes. Developing students historical literacy skills is so important for us as History teachers. Have a read of the discussion in the post below and let me know your thoughts. "While evaluating significance may come more naturally to some, this is not universal. Therefore, it is important to encourage student thinking which evaluates long-term significance and impacts."
'It is important for students to understand that significance is variable and their individual view of what is historically significant will be shaped by their own perspective and values, in addition to social, cultural, economic, educational and political factors. However, despite its different perspectives, there are some events in history which are consistently understood as having significance.' In this reader submission, English and History teacher, Alec Santucci, defines ‘historical significance’ and shares some practical methods for promoting historical skills in the classroom.

Great article on rigor and cultural relevance in the curriculum. This quote sums it up: "Culturally relevant teaching is the conduit to academic success, and rigorous instruction is effective when grounded in culturally relevant teaching." https://lnkd.in/gqw9zePZ
