A Heartfelt Tribute: Celebrating Teacher Appreciation Day (27th Oct 2023) Teachers play an invaluable role in shaping the lives of students, serving as not only educators but also mentors and inspirations. A dedicated and skilled teacher has the power to ignite a lifelong passion for learning, fuel personal growth, and empower individuals to achieve their full potential. Conversely, the impact of an ineffective teacher can hinder a student's academic progress and dampen their enthusiasm for education. It is crucial to recognise and appreciate the vital contribution that teachers make to society, not just on a designated day, but each and every day. Showing appreciation for teachers should extend beyond occasions like Teacher ' s Day, as everyday gestures of gratitude can foster a culture of support and encouragement. Parents can play a fundamental role in this regard by actively demonstrating appreciation for their children's teachers, offering their support and collaboration. Recognising that teachers have their own challenges and responsibilities, treating them with kindness, respect, and empathy can significantly contribute to a positive working relationship. Furthermore, teachers possess a wealth of knowledge and resources that can benefit students beyond the confines of the classroom. Seeking guidance or recommendations from teachers regarding supplementary resources, extra classes, or opportunities for enrichment can enhance a student's educational journey. By acknowledging and valuing the expertise that teachers bring to the table, we foster a collaborative partnership that ultimately benefits the student's overall development. Teachers form an integral part of our lives, shaping our educational experiences and laying the foundation for our future endeavours. It is imperative that we express our gratitude for teachers not only on specific occasions but on a consistent basis, through both words and actions.

It is vital that education leaders and policy makers understand the importance, impact and benefits of the arts to student wellbeing and improved learning outcomes. A holistic, not narrow focus on education also improves student engagement and gives them a fuller understanding of the world. Every child deserves the opportunity to engage with the arts.

Director at Sing Education | Drawing together first class music teacher, training and curriculum resources for primary schools.
“We’re preparing #children for a world that doesn’t exist.” The message that came across loud and clear from business leaders, cultural figures, scientists and #teachers was that the education system is not delivering what the economy needs, what #parents want or what #pupils deserve. The way people shop, work, travel, bank and watch television has changed utterly over the past decade but #schools have failed to keep pace. Sir James Dyson, the inventor, told the [Times Education] commission that the economy would continue to flatline without a greater focus on creativity, originality and innovation in education. “Children are creative. They love building and making things. But as they get closer to GCSEs and A-levels all that is squashed out of them,” he said. “It’s all about rote-learning, not using your imagination. The system doesn’t measure creativity; it measures what you can remember of other people’s facts.” The Times 🎵 🎹 🎵 A well-rounded, tech savvy, entrepreneurial life-long learner. These are the aims for 21st century education. And it starts with bringing innovation into the classroom. Sing Education couldn’t agree more. Our tuition model emphasises self-expression, creativity and innovation - and is always evolving as we incorporate the best new learnings from academia, career musicians and our large schools network. While we rely on certain core principles - such as those found in the Kodály method - we’re constantly scanning the environment for new, creative ways to teach music, to develop our staff and to embed high standards for music in the schools with which we work. Historically black colleges and universities (HBCU) institutions are making higher education accessible and affordable for African-American students. In the recent times, many high school students apply to HBCU scholarships and there are many openings year round. The HBCU understands that there are families struggling to foot academic bills and that is why they sponsor scholarships for indigent and desiring students, averagely the cost of tuition to attend a public college is up to $9,650 for students who reside in the states and the fee is very much higher at $24,930 for students who stay out-of-state. HBCU offers cheerleading scholarships and many high school students who submit their interest form to get selected for the HBCU cheerleading scholarship rely on the financial aid from the scholarship to make higher education affordable and possible. At Dancewave, we believe that young people should have equitable access to opportunities for lifelong success and thriving. Dancewave Through College and Beyond responds to the barriers young people face during the college application and audition process, and provides an empowering, full-service college preparatory program connecting students with top collegiate dance programs. Over the past 14 years, we have built a program that is unrivaled in size and scope. In fact, demand for this program, especially among families from low-income communities where college preparation is cost-prohibitive, is increasing at an unsustainable rate. This is why Dancewave is actively working to increase equitable program access so that the most marginalized students gain access to future-affirming opportunities in higher education and beyond. Creating more accessible opportunities for young people requires resources, and we cannot do this alone. We call on you to join us in creating more equitable systems: Contribute to our Go Beyond Fund and ensure that all students can access higher education and careers in dance, regardless of their race, gender, socioeconomic status or ability and extend your impact by forwarding this message to your community - every bit helps! https://lnkd.in/ef9Km--7

We now have an amazing opportunity to catalyze a movement to increase arts education, both in school and out. Last November, California voters overwhelmingly approved Prop 28: The Arts and Music in Schools — Funding Guarantee and Accountability Act. Prop 28 provides a minimum source for annual funding to “supplement arts education programs” for pupils attending state-funded PK–12 public and charter schools. California law mandates standards-based instruction in grades K-12 in dance, music, theatre, and visual arts. “Creativity Challenge: The State of Arts Education in California,” commissioned by the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, found that only 11% of schools meet these requirements, and access to quality arts education remains inequitable with only 14% of schools with mostly low-income students offering all 4 four disciplines, compared to 32% of schools with affluent majority students. The passage of Prop 28 is a historic opportunity to ensure equitable access to quality, standards-based arts education for all PK-12 California public school students. And yet, there is more work to do. It is essential to start planning and preparing to ensure a smooth and successful expansion of arts education programs. Create CA is working with students, advocates, school leaders, and partners to develop resources that will help ensure the promise of Prop 28 - that all California students experience the benefits of a robust visual and performance arts education. Reach out to Create CA, as well as Arts for LA, to see how you can get involved. Together, let’s ensure this investment has a real impact. https://lnkd.in/g5CNR2DF
