BUT HOW? Many factors made a difference: - Scope itself ie qty of earthworks and walls - Connection complexities ie depth and location of sewer connections - Economies of scale ie 2 lot of 55 lot subdivision - Basic landscaping or Botanical Garden style - Location So which one do you allow for, for your next land development project? Such an amazing and insightful post. She brings up an extremely interesting and significant point. Unclear, misguided, or poorly managed initiatives and projects can be afflicted by severe delays (for a variety of factors). These effects can be astronomical and cause an exponential rise in costs. However, those costs are nothing compared to the repercussions of losing a vital or critical asset that we end up taking for granted. In So Cal, people regularly joke about if Interstate 10 will ever be fixed. I was there last December, 4 years after relocating, and I'm sad to report that it is still under construction. This of course, doesn't include the 35 years I lived there, or whenever the construction was started. I'm in TN now and often amazed or in shock & awe to see projects started and finished, especially when it's only been a few or couple weeks since I've been through a certain area and you can tell a project was freshly completed. We always undertake a site visit at the start of a project. It really helps to understand the existing structure and how we can make it work for the proposed project. The inclusion of green and blue roofs is imperative, especially in urban spaces. As precipitation events become more extreme, the question of what to do with massive amounts of storm water that comes so fast it overwhelms our sewer systems is increasingly at the forefront of our minds. Extreme events cause flooding and destruction of property and can even takes lives. Adding a green roof also helps with the urban heat island effect as green plants absorb heat and moisture. Adding green space anywhere in urban areas is needed. Making roofs vibrant green spaces can enhance the beauty of the city and help make it a cleaner, healthier and more environmentally friendly space.
