Definitely worth the read. I love the final paragraph "For all the reasons described, when clients want help with a traditional public meeting, we often steer them away from the idea. What they really want is shared understanding of a concept; buy-in for a project; and a community that’s cohesive, empowered, inclusive and thriving in every way possible. So torch the town hall and try something a little more civilized for all parties. Getting there is simple but not easy. It takes fresh thinking, an open mind, and a lot of courage. It takes #vulnerability and #humility and a #willingnesstochange. With some forethought and planning though, the results include more satisfied stakeholders with #renewedtrust in your agency and a more #informeddecision that most can support." #authenticpublicengagement #localgovleadership #policybeginswithpeople
A traditional “town hall” style public meeting is not the only option you have to engage the public – it’s not even the best option. Renewed trust and more informed decisions require a different approach. This article explores the most effective ways to engage your community. https://lnkd.in/eTTMcRng

Do you know what your local council is up to? It’s important that you do. Life in your local area is shaped by the decisions and policies made by your Council and the Councillors you elect to represent your community. It’s important that we are all fully informed on the important work they do. Indeed, greater awareness can also allow people to become more involved in local government structures and decision making in their communities. That is why, today, the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage launched the “Your Council” campaign, to provide members of the public with more information about local government - providing an overview of the different responsibilities of local government and the key role played by Councillors in shaping communities. Stay informed & get involved with Amherst town affairs! Two very useful tools for doing this are the Town’s “Notify Me” email service and the “Community Activity Form.” You can select what kinds of notifications you want from the first page - personally I like the public meeting notices to stay informed of what is on the agenda for various boards and committees. Same thing with the CAF - it’s quick to complete and you can specify which boards or committees you might like to serve on. Links: https://lnkd.in/e6KxQB_A https://lnkd.in/eXQWppn6
