The Fatal One. Since 1980 work related traffic accidents have been the number ONE cause of death in the workplace. Nearly 40% of deaths on the job occur on American roads, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Remember those you know who were killed in a traffic accident while on the job. The Road to Zero Coalition, managed by the National Safety Council, released a comprehensive report laying out strategies to end roadway deaths in the U.S. by 2050. Is there a safety culture at your workplace! Prepare Today For A Safer Tomorrow. Let NSC Help You Build a Strong Safety Culture in your workplace.
I'm at a loss for where to begin this post. I could probably write an entire book about this last week, and the number of people I have to thank, but I'll try to keep it brief. To start, we welcomed Transportation Sec. Pete Buttigieg to our Road to Zero annual meeting. I had the honor to sit down with him for a discussion about his department's strides to improve safety and how we can continue to harness technology and shift culture to ensure the number of deaths keeps going down. Over the following few days the National Safety Council, our partner organizations, and over 100 families impacted by traffic crashes met with lawmakers to advocate for safer streets and an end to fatalities on our roadways. I was blown away by these families and their willingness to share their stories in order to make everyone safer on our roads. We capped the fly-in with a press conference featuring advocates and members of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. I want to express my deepest gratitude to the families and survivors who flew to our nation’s capital. Data alone won't solve this national tragedy. Your drive and your stories will help us end this public health crisis on our roads. To the members who met with us and who participated in our press conference, thank you for listening and for prioritizing road safety. Finally, thank you to the Department of Transportation and Sec. Buttigieg for your inspiring and thoughtful words and for all you do to make our roads safer. I say it often, but none of us alone can stop the massive loss of life on our roads. We got to see firsthand the power of bringing our voices together as we strive to save lives.

How much hotter is Chico than LA today? 🧐 Unless you’re traveling soon, you don’t need to know that. But if you’re going from Culver City to Azusa, comparing local temperatures will be more relevant. Systems and Data Manager Elly Schoen shows how we’re doing the same thing with CalEnviroScreen data—narrowing environmental data’s focus from statewide to local comparisons for a clearer view of what’s happening within LA County. By the way, Chico is 1 degree hotter today. #lacounty #data #calenviroscreen
