Last month, Mayor Kevin Cole and the Office of Emergency Management brought together 28 faith-based, civic, and non-profit organizations at the Knights of Columbus Hall to explore creating a standing Community Disaster Recovery Committee. The plan is to set up a steering committee and subcommittees to handle post-disaster recovery tasks such as: 🏠sheltering displaced residents, 🚗providing transportation and childcare, ☎️ assisting with insurance claims, and more. Our goal is to alleviate hardship, promote unity, and restore Pearland swiftly and completely. Let's come together and prove Pearland's strength through our volunteer efforts!

This #TriviaTuesday we're learning about Midwest Food Bank 🌽 Midwest Food Bank volunteers are more than hands and feet; they are fundamental to the success of the organization. They are structured to provide service opportunities and operate through the work of volunteers; they collect, sort, pack, and distribute food and disaster relief donations, a reminder every day that this mission could not be achieved without them. In 2022, more than 30,000 volunteers put in service hours to the equivalent of over 175 full-time employees! The service of these dedicated volunteers allows Midwest Food Bank to operate efficiently while keeping administrative costs low. They gain the unique perspective that worldwide hunger is prevalent, and their efforts can make a difference. In 2005, Midwest Food Bank saw first-hand that they could deliver hope and support to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. They decided to increase their capacity and work toward improving their disaster support coverage. This allowed them to serve more people more effectively! They also have a fleet of trucks and volunteer drivers standing ready. Food donations are picked up from across the country, delivered to their facilities, and distributed to those in need. How many hours of service did Midwest Food Bank's volunteers put in in 2022? A) 200,000 B) 250,000 C) 300,000 D) 350,000 See more about their missions and values here: https://lnkd.in/dvAj_hcs

PLEASE SHARE AND SUPPORT Dear Friends, I write to you today with a heavy heart as I bring attention to the devastating tragedy unfolding in the southern region of Brazil. Over the past week, relentless rainfall has unleashed catastrophic flooding, leaving communities submerged, homes destroyed, and lives shattered. The scale of this disaster is immense, and the need for assistance is urgent. Countless families are now homeless, forced to flee to higher ground with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Schools, hospitals, and vital infrastructure have been washed away, leaving communities isolated and in desperate need of support. The images emerging from the affected areas are heart-wrenching, showcasing the extent of the devastation and the immense challenges ahead. In the face of such adversity, we must come together as a global community to offer our support and solidarity to those affected by this tragedy. Every contribution, no matter how small, can make a difference in the lives of those who have lost everything. There are several ways you can help: Donate: Your financial support can provide immediate relief to those in need, including shelter, food, clean water, and medical supplies. Organizations such as the Red Cross and local relief agencies are on the ground, working tirelessly to assist affected communities. Volunteer: If you are able, consider volunteering your time and skills to help with rescue and relief efforts. Your assistance can make a direct impact in providing aid to those who need it most. Spread Awareness: Share information about the situation in Brazil with your friends, family, and social networks. By raising awareness, we can mobilize more support and resources to assist those affected by the flooding. Offer Prayers and Support: In times of crisis, a message of solidarity and compassion can provide comfort to those who are suffering. Take a moment to offer your thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families. Together, we can make a difference and provide hope to those who have been affected by this tragedy. Let us stand in solidarity with the people of southern Brazil and offer our unwavering support during this difficult time. Recent storms have greatly affected our greater Houston communities. As a good corporate neighbor, it’s our responsibility to step up and support our community members in need. That’s why we’re supporting local disaster relief efforts with a $100,000 donation to four nonprofit organizations: - Houston Food Bank plays a crucial role in providing emergency food assistance to communities affected by natural disasters. The donation will help Houston Food Bank replenish food through its disaster-response partners, providing assistance for neighbors who lost all their perishable food due to power outages caused by the recent storms. - BakerRipley, with more than 55 locations across the Texas Gulf Coast Region, will use the donation to support its four community centers in providing refuge and ongoing holistic assistance to families. Additionally, funds will used to support critical programs like upcoming monthly food fairs, which are expected to see larger crowds. - Rebuilding Together Houston ensures the homes of veterans are safe and livable and will use the donation to help fund licensed contractors to perform disaster-related repairs for low-income homeowners affected by the storms, including roof replacements, structural stabilization, and repairs from water damage. - Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston will use the donation to provide gift cards as well as food, clothing, vouchers for temporary shelter and essential supplies to storm victims. Additionally, financial assistance will be available to families facing unexpected crises due to the storm's impact. CITGO is dedicated to supporting the community in times of need. Through strategic partnerships and generous donations, we strive to make a positive impact on the lives of those affected by natural disasters and other crises. #Houston #CommunitySupport #CommunityResilience
