#ThreatTuesday Road Salt ❄
Road Salt is one out of the 22 threats to our drinking water! As the cold weather returns, so does the use of road salt on icy roads and walkways. But did you know that this common practice poses risks to our drinking water sources? When road salt is applied, it can end up in drains and the ground, and end up in our drinking water! This can negatively impact your health and is a costly issue to address.
To help prevent road salt from ending up in your drinking water follow these tips:
1. Use sand or cat litter instead of salt to provide traction on ice.
2. A little goes a far way, a few tablespoons of salt for one-meter square is all you need.
3. Wait to reapply! Even if you don’t see it, salt is hard at work!
Be smart about salt and protect our drinking water! 🚰
