A nagging feeling of being disconnected from staff and board members is one of the most common and persistent challenges leaders face - especially new one. As a client once said to me: “You can't even really have a bad day because everyone's looking to you.” Whew! Feeling that way can be really challenging at work. I promise you, though, there are ways to make it better! Here are 4 tips to combat feelings of isolation at work: Tip 1: Set up weekly one-on-one meetings with your board chair & direct reports. Curate these internal relationships to build connection, camaraderie, respect and opportunity. Tip 2: Create Your Own Structure. Cultivate personal habits and practices that provide a sense of stability on a daily basis to maintain your emotional health. Tip 3: Start positive habits with staff. Build organizational practices that help you (and your team) feel more connected to the workplace such as social events, competitions and 'no agenda' time to engage. Tip 4: Build an external support team and make these relationships a priority. Networking is important to move your work and career forward, yet don't underestimate it as a way to find and maintain external and supportive relationships to hold you up when you feel alone in your leadership role. When I was 22, I made the decision to create an idea called Dyoowe, LLC. Initially conceived as a platform for the beauty products I desired for my personal use, it evolved beyond a mere collection to embody a profound marketing significance. It transformed into a yearning for deeper and more meaningful relationships to nurture throughout my professional journey. It blossomed into an authentic dialogue about business success, extending from me to you. Dyoowe has assumed various forms, but the current iteration is my favorite. We specialize in improving marketing strategies, enhancing public relations efforts, and fortifying community engagement initiatives. My mission extends beyond merely partnering with businesses; it involves fostering communication with them. I choose to nurture relationships, and that is how Dyoowe has come to fruition. In the course of my life, I've experienced intense highs and lows. I've grappled with the contrasts of life, as well as the dynamics between myself and others. The year 2023 marked a pivotal moment for me, leaving an indelible impression. Leaving Los Angeles, opening a business, graduating with my Master's degree; it radiated the extremes of life, teaching me to embrace love and find equilibrium. I've learned the importance of treating others with kindness and sharing my successes. As I anticipate the trajectory of my consulting firm in the upcoming year, I eagerly look forward to continuing the lifelong journey of nurturing meaningful relationships with you all. Never. Give. Reflecting on two days of insightful conversation and shared wisdom at the Grantmakers of Kentucky Event!   Here are some insights and takeaways from our CEO, Tiffany Benjamin, on exploring innovative strategies and discussing the challenges and triumphs in grantmaking:   -A particularly impactful session was dedicated to Community Listening; Panelists shared how they build the ability to hear from the community before making funding decisions.   -Discussion revolving around the evaluation of strategies to ensure the voices of community are truly being heard. A cautionary tale was shared by a participant, highlighting the experience of a funder who devised a strong plan, only to have the strategy go unused because there had not been direct engagement with the families in the community.   -We also discussed that we now have fewer local connections to each other and we need to do more to come together to create spaces for people to convene.

The Boxser Diversity Initiative is concerned about the #Sarasota County Commission's recent funding decisions, particularly regarding the exclusion of important community programs like the Embracing Our Differences, Inc. exhibition, the Chalk Festival, and WSLR Fogartyville. These programs play a vital role in cultural enrichment and community engagement in Sarasota County. While we appreciate the Commission's support for arts and cultural initiatives with $2.1 million in #tourist tax dollars, we believe excluding funding for these programs may overlook their significant impact. Embracing Our Differences, for instance, attracts hundreds of thousands of #visitors and promotes #humanrights and diversity through artistic expression. We urge the Commission to reconsider these decisions and ensure equitable support for all community programs that foster #dialogue and celebrate #diversity. Cultural diversity and artistic expression are essential to our community's fabric, and inclusive funding decisions will better reflect our shared values of tolerance and cultural vibrancy.
