With over 20 years of experience in parks and recreation management, Bryan has made a lasting impact on our community. His accomplishments include opening the Aquatic Center, revitalizing the Mountain View Community Center and Donnie Hale Park Renovation, and much more. Bryan has been recognized multiple times by the Arizona Parks and Recreation Association for his outstanding professionalism and leadership. Thank you, Bryan, for your incredible contributions!

Last week, we celebrated Assistant City Manager Cherlene Penilla's remarkable 24-year tenure with the City of Avondale at her retirement party. During her tenure, she oversaw key personnel recruitment. She oversaw testing, selection, classification and compensation, employee benefits administration, organizational development and training, policy administration, equal employment opportunity, and labor law compliance. Thank you, Cherlene, for your incredible contributions to our city! 🎉 

As National Public Works Week draws to a close, we want to celebrate the incredible work of our Public Works Department and highlight one of our innovative initiatives: the WeRide Microtransit Program. 🚌✨    Since its launch in October 2022, WeRide has completed an impressive 51,858 rides, with one of the most popular destinations being Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC)! 🎓🚗 EMCC students can book a ride at a discounted rate of $1, making transportation more accessible and convenient for our community.    Let's continue to support initiatives like WeRide that enhance the quality of life for all residents! 🌟💙    #NationalPublicWorksWeek #Sustainability #NPWW #AQOLFA

Our second feature highlights Mission of Mercy Arizona a remarkable nonprofit organization. In partnership with Avondale Baptist Church, they provide free healthcare and prescription medications to the uninsured, underinsured, and those who fall through the cracks of our healthcare system. Congratulations to the recent graduates of our Citizen's Water Academy! This hands-on, interactive series covered all things water and wastewater. Participants toured Avondale’s water reclamation facility, wetlands, recharge basins, and the award-winning Avondale Aquaculture site. They learned where their water comes from, how it's treated and delivered, and even took a virtual journey through the sewer system. Thank you to everyone who made this academy a success!
