Thank you City Transport & Traffic Innovation Magazine for letting me share my thoughts on how Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data will impact urban mobility in 2024. In the fast-evolving world we live in, identifying patterns and trends in people travel habits and how they change can be challenging. I believe that mobility data and AI combined together will help distinguish those shifts in travel behaviour quickly, thus helping transport operators to align with people travel requirements faster.

Plan has merit but no more than 2 busgates. Many cars passing through city comming from outside city boundary & many would use option of P&R. RedCow-Luas could have a multistory P&R of 3k spaces rather than just 300 spaces today & similar on new Lucan Luas stations. Kiseoge station closed for 12 years but could serve nearby industrial estate with many of the 20k workers travelling out from city & similar living in area. Parisien direct mayor model at polar opposite of citizen consultation as recent plebiscite on SUV parking fee limited to 1.2m electorate in mayor's 20 city arrondissements out of city pop of 10m. Turnout was just 5.7% as all residents & workers excluded from paying SUV fee. 38k Parisiens passed vote in a city of 10m is equivalent to 3k in Dublin imposing their choice on Dublin city pop of 1m - hardly democratic or a model for citizen colsultation. DCC has flaws but it's councillors relect views of those who voted for them so far better to negotiate with them.
My op ed in the Irish Times today. "The plan follows the trend sweeping across the world where city centre cores have been returned to citizens and private cars have been limited. Cities like Paris, New York and London have all implemented similar schemes. These cities have extensive underground public transport systems, so of course that is a factor, but we can’t wait over a decade for Metrolink. We have to take action so we can live in our city, reduce congestion, and cut emissions." https://lnkd.in/eWU_7FwX

Thank you to Mark Moran for the opportunity to share my insights. https://lnkd.in/eAVhyRjq With the UK’s population growing by an average of 0.3% each year space has never been more premium. This is especially true in our cities and more urban areas. As population numbers continue to grow, so too does the number of vehicles on the roads and concerns about parking. Against this backdrop, achieving optimum parking occupancy has never been more important. As well as ensuring that drivers can find parking quickly and efficiently, it can help to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow. It is the key to making our cities more liveable and improving the parking experience for everyone. #Parking #Automotive #UrbanParking #OptimumParkingOccupancy

Yesterday Sadiq Khan launched his Mayoral Manifesto. The key pledges of note for London & South members include: - Freeze TfL fares “until at least 2025 and continue to freeze fares for as long as economic conditions allow”. - To create new Land Assembly Zones and set up more Mayoral Development Corporations to boost housing and regeneration projects. - Provide 4G and 5G service to all the London Underground, London Overground and the Elizabeth line by the end of 2025. - For Outer London, he aims to address the poor service and standards for users using non-TfL rail services. This includes exploring greater devolution of rail services and what lines could be better run by TfL. - He suggested he would push to deliver the next generation of major transport projects, including the Bakerloo Line Extension, West London Orbital and DLR to Thamesmead. These projects “could unlock an additional 150,000 new homes and would be a huge economic boost”. - Continue work to safeguard the Crossrail 2 route so that this project can be brought to fruition in the future. - He committed to delivering a fleet of 54 new DLR trains by 2028, developing plans to replace the Bakerloo line fleet, and delivering the new Piccadilly line trains from 2025 - Modernising TfL’s approach to ticketing. This will include allowing concession holders to use their phones as their travel pass, instead of having to carry an Oyster card; working with the government to roll out contactless payment in stations outside London; and working to include National Rail discounts when contactless payments are use. Why do we always share urban planning and development projects in a way that even locals struggle to visualize? Have you ever looked at a glossy architectural rendering and not recognized your city or any of the people in it? Ever been handed a 30 page jargon-filled booklet at a public hearing and had your eyes glaze over? There's got to be a better way to share spatial proposals with stakeholders and the public so we can spend less time misunderstanding and more time having substantial conversations. AR can be a powerful tool to unlock those conversations faster and bring more people to the table.
Our cities change in 3D, so why do we have to learn about new projects in 2D? 📑 🤔 😍 🤳 🏙 Columbus, Ohio is changing the game by taking public engagement into a new dimension! Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) worked with inCitu to create an augmented bus tour to the future, showcasing how LinkUS Columbus is creating an even more connected, walkable city. 📍Columbus local?
