In 2021, together with other professionals, we prepared the Ibarra Green Infrastructure Plan (PGIV). It is a planning instrument, which configures an articulated network of green areas and delimits protection áreas, that guarantee the continuity of ecosystem services and biodiversity within the city. The final product is the desired city model for 2032. The process was enriched by the active participation of university professors, parish presidents, neighborhood presidents, and municipal authorities. Enabling Water Smart Communities was at Futurebuild conference this week! George Warren (Anglian Water Services), Bec Chau (Arup) and Ella Foggitt (The University of Manchester) gave a summary of insights from the project's 'discovery phase'...... 🏘 💦 The housing and water sectors are being brought closer together by shared challenges such as water scarcity, flooding and nutrient neutrality. Water smart communities are key to addressing these challenges. There are many definitions out there, but water smart communities are essentially about developing new housing communities that harness and use water in a sustainable manner. The project has developed a model which encompasses three 'enabling principles' for water smart communities: values, assets and stewardship.  It’s not possible to think about 'assets' without also thinking about the 'values' they deliver and the necessary 'stewardship' to ensure these values endure. Water smart communities won’t be mainstreamed overnight. But the project has an ambition to build the understanding and evidence base that will enable them beyond the end of the project life in 2025.
