Amsterdam Airport Schiphol lowered carbon emissions by electrifying its ground operations by phasing out diesel ground power units that currently supply electrical power to aircraft while parked at airport gates. The airport installed Electric Ground Power Units (E-GPUs) by ESS Tech, Inc., a manufacturer of long-duration energy storage (LDES) systems for commercial and utility-scale applications. The electrification of ground operations will lower both carbon emissions and air pollution and support the Royal Schiphol Group’s ambitious climate targets. The project is supported by the TULIPS consortium, an EU-funded consortium of airports across Europe seeking to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy within Europe’s aviation sector. The project will demonstrate how LDES can enable the electrification of ground support equipment, such as the E-GPUs, while reducing the need to upgrade regional grid infrastructure. ESS’s iron flow technology provides cost-effective LDES ideal for applications that require up to 12 hours of flexible energy capacity. The Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Company is on a mission to provide state-of-the-art #EV fast-charging infrastructure across #SaudiArabia, fostering the development of the local #automotive ecosystem and expediting the adoption of electric vehicles. 📢Just announced! €424m EU funding for 42 low-and zero-emission transport projects in 13 Member States. The projects will aid the installation of electric recharging points and hydrogen refueling stations, as well as the electrification of ports and airports, taking Europe closer to its Green Deal goals. Financing will come from the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility (AFIF) of the Connecting Europe Facility. Since 2021, the EU has granted over €1.3 billion through AFIF to several projects, deploying 26,396 electric recharging points, 202 hydrogen refuelling stations, and electrifying ground operations in 63 airports. AFIF is funding the deployment of alternative fuel supply infrastructure along the EU’s trans-European network for transport (TEN-T). The facility operates through a rolling call for proposals. This funding is part of the second phase of AFIF (2024-2025), which notably supports the objectives set in the new Regulation for the deployment of alternative fuels infrastructure (AFIR), as well as the objectives set in the ReFuelEU aviation and the FuelEU maritime Regulations. An ongoing AFIF call is now open for applications, with a budget of €1 billion for 2024-2025. ⚡ 🚆 LTG Infra, company responsible for Lithuania's railway network infrastructure, Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator Litgrid AB, and RB Rail AS | Rail Baltica signed a cooperation agreement on the preparation of electricity transmission networks for connection to the traction substations of the #RailBaltica project. The agreement between the companies enables the preparation of an electricity transmission network for the implementation of the electrification of the European railway line Rail Baltica. A total of 5 places are expected to be prepared for the integration of Rail Baltica traction substations into the existing Litgrid network. ✅ 📍 💬 "An important aspect of the signed agreement is that it defines the principles of cooperation, which enable parallel preparations for the next important stage of the project's implementation - electrification, while the construction of the railway is still underway," said Vytis Zalimas, CEO of LTG Infra. #LTGInfra #CEFTransport
