True. Increasing youth participation in decision making processes is crucial for building a more inclusive and sustainable future. By empowering young people with a voice, we can tap into their innovative ideas and untapped potential to create positive change. Let's pave the way for a better tomorrow by amplifying youth voices in critical conversations and embracing their fresh perspective.
Youth Participation is important because it helps institutions to formulate and implement evidence based policies , allows society to hear the voice of the youth better as well as encourages them to develop new skills and gain more confidence. https://lnkd.in/dyfVK4nm

Education is a human right, yet our recent inquiry, Let us learn, found that children and young people in state care in Victoria lag on several key indicators of educational progress. They are more likely to be suspended or expelled and are significantly less likely to progress to Year 12. Educational outcomes vary by care type, with residential care the most concerning, and with Aboriginal children faring worse than their non-Aboriginal peers. We also found that child protection and schools are not collaborating effectively to support kids in care in their education, and that stigma and racism remain prevalent. We made 47 recommendations about how these issues could be addressed by improving support and collaboration. Here are some simple actions you can take this Human Rights Week. To do now (5 minutes) Post this message to social media: Education is a human right, but the Let us learn inquiry shows Victoria’s children in state care are missing out. To find out more, watch the video or read the report at our website #HRWVic2023 #LetUsLearn To do this week Help us promote the Let us learn inquiry using our stakeholder kit messages and social media tiles. Include the hashtags #HRWVic2023 and #LetUsLearn. Share the kit with your network. When I was first asked to participate in this panel discussion I was nervous as this sort of thing is definitely not in my comfort zone. However I felt honoured to have been asked and knew it was a valuable opportunity for me personally and for Be Free Young Carers. As a mother, and a youth worker (working with 8-17 year olds) I know how important it is for young people to participate in this increasingly digital world in which we find ourselves. Almost every time I register a new young carer when I ask what they do to relax I hear the same answer 'I go on my phone/tablet' with TikTok and YouTube being the most commonly used platforms. As a charity we know that digital poverty is very real amongst our families, most of the young carers have phones but many of them do not have access to a laptop or computer. This is why we try to ensure that every young carer going into year 7 has a laptop, we are very much aware how many of their homework tasks need to be completed online. We want to make sure that our Young Carers (who are often already disadvantaged when it comes to schoolwork) do not fall further behind due to a lack of equipment. However, we also realise the importance of real life face to face interactions and this is why we have our respite trips and monthly hangouts for our 13 group. During these activities the young carers form friendships that will continue once they leave our group at the age of 18, this will really help them in the longer term. #youngcarers #digitalpoverty #oxfordyoungcarers #disadvantaged

On this day, we celebrate the boundless energy, creativity, and immense potential of the youth. This day not only recognizes the pivotal role that young individuals play in shaping our future but also underscores their resilience in the face of challenges. It's a moment to both acknowledge the issues they confront and raise awareness about them, fostering a deeper understanding of the aspirations and concerns of the youth. #International_Youth_Day #Youth_For_Positive_Change #PR4U
