ezCater Launches Supplier Diversity Program to Empower Underrepresented Restaurants ezCater Melissa Cantarow In a move aimed at championing diversity and inclusion in the culinary landscape, ezCater, the prominent food for work technology company in the US, has unveiled a robust supplier diversity program. This initiative seeks to spotlight and elevate small businesses and restaurants owned by individuals from underrepresented groups. The program not only introduces new search filters on ezCater’s marketplace but also incorporates partnerships and reporting features to foster a more inclusive food ecosystem. One of the cornerstone features of ezCater’s supplier diversity program is the introduction of two powerful search filters on its marketplace. The “Diversity of Ownership” filter enables workplaces to seamlessly explore and order from restaurants owned by individuals identifying as part of various underrepresented groups, including Asian-American, Pacific Islander, Black, Disabled, Hispanic, Latine, Indigenous American, LGBTQ, Middle Eastern, North African, veterans, or women. 🌟 Embracing Diversity is an ongoing journey that requires conscious effort from everyone! I'm troubled by recent remarks made by the owner of La Mama (Restaurants) chain, which highlight concerning issues from an Equality Diversity Inclusion (EDI) perspective. The discriminatory comments in the article, particularly targeting Asian workers, raise serious concerns about the inclusivity of his workplace culture. Such language and practices perpetuate harmful stereotypes and exclusionary attitudes, which run counter to the principles of diversity and inclusion. While I am happy to read that he expresses willingness to hire "people with disabilities," I raise concerns about how that will turn out considering the restaurant chain workplace culture. Great share from Brandon Isner, our CBRE Retail Head of Americas Research. According to a report by Yelp, there was a substantial increase in openings in the Food & Beverage (F&B) sector in 2023. Yelp counted 53,793 new U.S. restaurant openings in 2023, up 10% from 2022 openings and up 2% from the previous 2019 high. Their study also found that every state surpassed pre-pandemic business openings for the first time. Predictably, California had the greatest amount of openings with 8,694 new restaurants. Female entrepreneurs also started more new businesses than ever. Combining every state and every industry, the number of women-owned business openings increased 17% compared to 2022. The Los Angeles metro claimed the highest overall business openings for diverse entrepreneurs, securing the top position for Women, Latin American, LGBTQ, and Asian-owned businesses.
