Publication Alert! 📢 https://lnkd.in/e69uJD7T CIEP recently published a paper titled 'Relaunching Ammonia From Fertilizer to Energy Carrier in Northwest Europe', written by Roelof Stam. This paper delves into the changing role of ammonia in Northwest Europe and how the existing ammonia infrastructure, knowledge base and expertise can be leveraged to facilitate ammonia's integration as an energy carrier and low-carbon fuel in the region. The paper explores various dimensions, including the current state of the ammonia industry in Northwest Europe, the potential use of ammonia as an overseas energy carrier, inland transportation and storage, its use as a fuel, and the resulting impacts on the regional ammonia market.

The bioreactor market surpassed $8.5 billion in 2022 and is projected to grow 12% each year. 📈 However, like other chemical processes, bioreactors can pose flammable, explosive, or toxic hazards to personnel and the environment. 🔥💥☠ Before the hazards are discussed, a general understanding of how bioreactors work should be established. Different types of bioreactors present in the industry should also be analyzed as they can pose a variety of hazards. Learn more in our new white paper, “Introduction to Bioreactors and Their Hazards”, authored by Mike Moosemiller, Alexandre Cardoso, P.Eng., and Murtaza Gandhi: https://lnkd.in/gzMcw-QF. This paper is the third in our five-part white paper series on risk management for Biofuels. Interesting. I will be watching this closely. Steam crackers are #energy hungry beasts of the #petrochemical world. I would love to see one up close! I invision many oil #refineries in the future will begin diversifying to produce base chemicals such as olefins and aromatics via steam cracking. They will be looking at demonstration projects like this carefully. https://lnkd.in/gudrr5X3

Exciting developments in low-carbon methanol are on the horizon, with OCI Global leading the charge in Beaumont, Texas. OCI has secured essential feedstocks to significantly increase the production of green ammonia and green methanol. OCI is actively promoting green methanol as an alternative fuel for ships, and they recently fueled a Maersk container ship with green methanol in Rotterdam. As renewable energy costs decline and electrolysis technology advances, the future looks promising for green hydrogen and downstream chemicals. Regional advantages, like abundant renewable energy sources and government incentives, will play a pivotal role in shaping the competitiveness of such projects. Stay tuned for the evolution of sustainable energy solutions, with Texas and other energy-rich regions leading the way. #GreenMethanol #EnergyTransition #Sustainability #GreenEnergy #Energy #Texas

Originally written in 2009 with one update, the Energy Policy Research Foundation is today publishing a complete revision of its Gasoline Blending Primer. This expanded version of the Primer concisely explains the evolution of gasoline production and formulation from early efforts to meet rising performance standards to recent blends required by more rigorous pollution regulations and biofuel mandates. “In the process, finished gasoline that was once a simple combination of a few refined petroleum components usable across a wide geographic space has evolved to many formulations that have become increasingly complex adjusted for the requirements of different regulatory jurisdictions,” commented Max Pyziur, EPRINC’s Research Director. “This is a formidable achievement, but it comes with increasing costs.” The Primer is updated with discussions of current policy considerations and issues. The Alfa Laval GHR heat exchanger makes it possible to produce steam using combined heat and power (#CHP). This can be done cost-effectively, with a small footprint, and with a short payback time. In this case, the exhaust gas from biogas engines is used to generate steam at a Chinese fertilizer production facility. The saturated steam produced by the GHR means less energy from conventional combustion processes is used. As a result, the energy efficiency of the process drastically increases. Italy is set to hand out up to €550m ($596m) of direct grants to help its industrial giants switch to green hydrogen — as both a chemical feedstock and energy source. The EU gave state-aid approval to the programme, which envisages direct grants of up to €200m per beneficiary in the industrial sector, including the production of chemicals, fertiliser and steel, and oil refining. https://lnkd.in/d4AeAFCH #ItalyGreenEnergy #HydrogenTransition #EUStateAid #IndustrialGrants #ChemicalIndustry #RenewableEnergy #GreenTechnology #SustainableIndustry #HydrogenEconomy #CleanEnergy
