Food for Thought: The Power of Smiles and Hello's   Recently, I stumbled upon a thought-provoking statement during a podcast: "People who smile and say hello to strangers are happy people." It got me thinking. When we engage with strangers, we're not just exchanging pleasantries. It's an opportunity for empathy to blossom. We gain insights into lives we might never have encountered otherwise. Studies have shown that those who engage in conversations with strangers, whether on a bus, in a waiting room, or at a café, not only enjoy the interaction but also experience an uplift in mood afterward. Imagine bringing this ethos into our corporate culture. Stepping out of our cubicles and fostering genuine connections with colleagues and even strangers could lead to a more vibrant and fulfilling work environment. Let's embrace the power of a simple smile and hello, not just for our own happiness but also for the enrichment of those around us. I'm super proud to be a part of this company - and it's only the beginning! (check out our wrapped vid below...) 🚀 In just two months, I've seen that Burns Sheehan's focus on culture is really impressive. It got me thinking about the importance of workplace experiences, and I wanted to share a few Friday thoughts on work culture today 💭 ... 👩🎓 I've been lucky enough to have experienced really interesting (and differing) roles since graduating, of which have built up my skill sets and work experiences hugely. I'm proud of the roles I have delivered on, the people I have worked alongside, and the businesses I have worked for. 🧠 Here's what I've learned in relation to work culture: 💡 People are your business. They come before the clients that you serve/work with. Because if you look after them, they look after your business ten-fold. 💡 Culture is the single most important aspect of a thriving business. If you don't make your workplace experience one fuelled with collaboration and support, they won't (be able to) go above and beyond for you or your prospects. 💡 Lift people up, double down on strengths, and take them on the journey with you. 💡 Pat your colleagues on the back when something good comes of hard work. Everyone needs praise to keep going. It's pure science. Praise = dopamine. So celebrate the wins, even if they're small. It might just give them the boost to push for their next win. 💡 All of the above sounds like common sense, but so many leaders of businesses 'expect' this stuff to just happen. It doesn't. Leaders set the tone, the people make it happen. Empower, encourage, and nurture people. Thanks Burns Sheehan for being a genuinely great place to work so far. 'The Dream Team' I was just listening to a podcast which made me think back to the best team I've ever worked in (both in terms of enjoyment and being kick ass!). At the time I thought we just worked hard but looking back I realise quite a few things impacted our awesomeness! 1. Our manager - she led by trusting us to do what we thought, guiding us when we needed in and having our back. (Thank you!) 2. We knew each other well - we spent a lot of time doing psychometrics on others and understood them really well which spilled over into understanding ourselves and each other really well. 3. Challenging work - it was a super acquisitive environment which meant we were really busy but it also really stretched us. Some of the work was dull but a lot taught us a huge amount. 4. The working environment - we had desks in an office but we also had to be on the road a lot. So we had a huge variety in environment and also flexibility in our working day. If our meetings finished, we'd go home and do something from home. We were just trusted to get the job done from where ever. So thanks to the Dream Team for my fond memories! #effectiveteamworking #trust #development
