Celebrating AAPI Heritage and Mental Health Awareness Month by shining a light on a crucial topic: mental health in the AAPI community. Let's break the stigma, support each other, and cultivate spaces of understanding and healing. Take some time today to understand the cultural lens that our Asian American and Pacific Islander friends and community members view the world from. Read about the history, ask about their experiences, pursue resources that are culturally congruent for your clients. As doulas, it is so important to understand the significance of a client's culture in their daily life. We encourage you to set aside time with each of your clients to discuss the role of cultural practices they would like to see in their birth experience. #AAPIHeritageMonth #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #doulas #tdn #culture #mentalhealth

ASAP Co-founder Professor Derek Farrell explains how generational trauma is especially prevalent in vulnerable populations who don't have easy access to mental healthcare. These groups are in need of specialized treatments that are specifically designed to work for them. Communities facing systemic barriers, such as racial minorities, indigenous peoples, refugees and marginalized socioeconomic groups, often experience trauma passed down through generations due to historical injustices. Limited access to mental health resources and cultural factors further compound the effects of trauma, creating unique challenges in healing and resilience within these communities. Our research aims to develop early intervention trauma treatments that are quick, easy to understand, and widely accessible even in remote or under-funded communities. Trauma shows up in our mental health, physical health and relationships. It shapes who we are, the communities we cocreate and the systems we build. ➡️Most of our distress and dysfunction that does not resolve with mainstream intervention has an origin of unhealed trauma… and that trauma is often unconscious and systemic. ➡️We are very quick to dole out labels, pathology, shame, blame and plaster over the pain with band-aid solutions. 👉Healing asks us to look at what’s beneath the surface. To heal our trauma. And build a sustainable world that places healing front and centre. ❓What do you think? #mentalhealth #trauma #traumainformed #culturaltransformation #community #healing #sustainability 📹 keynote ‘Time to Heal’ at Procurecon Asia.
