This morning, BEING - Mental Health Consumers has released a position paper on suicidality, suicide and suicidism, ahead of the public consultation process for a Suicide Prevention Act for NSW. We want to see an end to suicidism (discrimination on the basis of suicidality). We also want to see investment in peer-led Safe Havens/Safe Spaces, and Alt2Su programs. BEING recently ran a survey of mental health consumers who had experienced suicidality. 85% of respondents said the police were the last people they would want to see when experiencing a suicidal crisis. Instead, consumers expressed a clear preference to talk to peer workers. #humanrights #socialjustice
