I’d also like to to thank all of the brave people who gave their lives to obtain and keep our independence for the last 248 years. Original Declaration (link below to read all of it): WHEN in the Course of human Events, it becomes necessary for one People to dissolve the Political Bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the Powers of the Earth, the separate and equal Station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent Respect to the Opinions of Mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the Separation. The History of the present King of Great-Britain is a History of repeated Injuries and Usurpations, all having in direct Object the Establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid World. He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public Good. He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing Importance, unless suspended in their Operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them. He has refused to pass other Laws for the Accommodation of large Districts of People, unless those People would relinquish the Right of Representation in the Legislature, a Right inestimable to them, and formidable to Tyrants only. On this day in 1776, the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence, a powerful document that proclaimed the American colonies' separation from Great Britain. Authored mainly by Thomas Jefferson, the Declaration asserted that all men are created equal and endowed with unalienable rights, including life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The Declaration cited specific grievances against the British Crown, detailing why the colonies were rebelling. Key issues included unjust taxation without representation, the imposition of laws without colonial consent, and the restriction of trade. These grievances highlighted the colonies' desire for self-governance and fair treatment. The signers of the Declaration knew the stakes were incredibly high. By putting their names on this document, they committed an act of treason against the British Crown, risking their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor. Had the colonies lost the Revolutionary War, these brave individuals would have faced execution, imprisonment, or financial ruin. The Declaration of Independence represents more than just the birth of a nation; it embodies the enduring ideals of freedom, equality, and self-determination. I wanted to wish all of my professional peers a happy American Independence Day, and to remind everyone how lucky we are that our forefathers had the insights to lay the groundwork for where we are today. Nothing is perfect, and trials where freedom is, will strengthen. As professionsals, we begin each fiscal year with a new set of goals. Back in 1787, our forefathers did the same, and laid these out in what became the preamble of our Constitution. Essentially, the “objectives” of our governments foundation. “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.". Take it to heart. Take it to work. Take it to sleep. These are critical objectives that we must strive to drive with passion in our work and home lives. Don’t tread on these objectives. Happy Independence Day!
