24 hours to go until we kick off our Christmas fundraiser event! Wait?! What?! You haven't got your ticket yet?! There's still time but if you can't be there in person, you can still support. Please continue reading to know why we need your help. We recently launched our new three-year strategy. We will continue to work with the elderly in need of home modifications, deep cleaning and renovations so that they can live safely in their home for longer. What's new in our strategic impact goals and why we are running this fundraiser, is because we want to work more with vulnerable people living in what we call in Hong Kong, Subdivided Units (SDUs). Over the last few years, Habitat for Humanity Hong Kong has worked with our local NGO community network to develop and deliver a Minimum Housing Standards Recommendations Report to the Government of the HKSAR to address the substandard living conditions of subdivided units, aiming to ensure safe and adequate housing for all. Beyond the issue of space, there are around 220,000 people in SDUs and many pay rents that are relatively the highest in the city for the space they have. There is a severe lack of maintenance, poor ventilation and lighting, inadequate hygiene, and pests such as rats and cockroaches. Tenants might not have a legal tenancy agreement and many families are discriminated against by landlords or other tenants. Over the next few years, we want to help more people living in these conditions to access a decent and affordable home for themselves and their families. We need your help. Please consider a Christmas pledge on our fundraiser event page - link below OR becoming a monthly donor, OR bidding on the silent auction (until 12pm December 8) OR share this post and help us to spread the word. I don't pretend to be an expert on this, but this is one of the many reasons I love working at Feather Down Farms. As a society, we're witnessing the rise of screen addiction among our children, I know we are as a family. Recent studies have shown that prolonged exposure to screens can lead to issues like sleep disturbances, obesity, poor academic performance, and even developmental delays. 😔 Here are a few steps I have started to try and implement in our house: 📺 Set Screen Time Limits: Establish clear guidelines for screen time and stick to them. We encourage outdoor activities, reading, and imaginative play as alternatives. 🤳 Lead by Example: My children often mimic my behaviour so I am conscious of my screen time and leave my phone in other rooms of the house to remove the temptation for me to scroll or respond to messages 💻 Create Tech-Free Zones: Designated areas in our home where screens are not allowed, such as our dining table or the kids' bedrooms, to promote quality family time. 🏕️ Enjoy a Feather Down weekend often #ScreenTime #ChildHealth #DigitalWellBeing #ParentingTips #Education #HealthyHabits
In today's fast-paced digital age, it's easy for children to become glued to screens, losing touch with the wonders of the natural world. Yet, amidst the hustle and bustle of modern life, there lies a treasure trove of benefits awaiting our children - the great outdoors. 🌱 Whether you live in a busy city or quiet suburbia, the benefits of enjoying the great outdoors span beyond just fresh air and sunshine. ☀️ In our partnership blog with Go Beyond charity, we unveil the multitude of benefits for children when they head into the great outdoors. ➡ https://lnkd.in/e-jQvN_m
