After sharing all of these stages of adult development, you may be asking yourself, “So I’m supposed to move to the last stage of adult development, right?” WRONG. Most adults will not move into the stages after Performing. The majority of us will operate in specializing (37%) or performing (30%) for most of our adult lives. The good news is that those stages have real strengths at work. People in those two stages are productive, have a lot to offer others, and are generally easy to get along with. The key question is: what’s the fit between your stage(s) and what’s being asked of you at work and in life?
