A Must-Read Post for the week; Because I believe regular human beings know that many groups/affiliations/associations have agendas/tactics that are intentionally polarising (designed to enrich a few at the expense of others while keeping their supporters’ attention perpetually engaged in the pursuit of affirmation from only people that agree with them), I also trust that there’ll always be people that rise up, investigate claims by even groups they belong to and choose objectivity based on verifiable truths (from multiple sources that hold a spectrum of interests and evidence). Good people that choose to abandon comfort in the pursuit of truly egalitarian societies (a topic I’ll pick up another day). Eg. Please read about the contrast between people’s stress/anxiety levels in mainland Greece vs that of Icaria’s residents. This serves as one relatable example of how easy it can be to be manipulated by third party actors (like mainstream media, sponsored, targeted, inflammatory accounts on social media, think tanks or rhetoric) in political, social and/or the economic bubbles we exist in. Ps. Different bubbles provide different ways for us to distance ourselves from issues that may not affect us directly - yet (but that’s another topic I’ll also pick up another day.) Back to the main topic, one useful tool I recently found to interrogate what information I believe (apart from facts corroborated across multiple publications with varying interests), is to always ask myself whether my immediate urge to respond is based on fact or past trauma. This has helped me pause before jumping to respond on issues that immediately raise my blood pressure, whether or not I think I know the facts. It also took me down a philosophical rabbit hole that explores what informs opinion at root/atomic/quark level. And I found a really fascinating theory; Phantasm. If you’re trying to dissect your thoughts on a certain complex topic/issue, I recommend finding out more about phantasms on the link below. If you don’t have enough time, I recommend starting the video from around Min 38:42. Thank me later and thanks Abigail Thorn🧘🏽♀️
