Happy Nurse's Week 2024! I am so proud to be a 4th generation nurse that stands on the shoulders of countless legends. My promise to the nurses that have paved the path for my success so far has 2 parts: 1. I promise to be intentional and grateful. I commit to surround myself with people that share my passion & celebrate each other's contributions - Iron Sharpens Iron. I am ecstatic to work with a courageous and innovative team of Nurses that are mission driven to deliver a workforce reality enabling clinicians with flexibility and the compensation they desire while creating financial sustainability and reliability for healthcare organizations. 2. I promise to say the hard things that need to be said. For instance, as we dive headlong into a new age of disruption & innovation at warp speed: if you're a healthcare leader whose organization is partnering with "technology firms" that don't have a Nurse voice at their executive table, ask them how they develop strategic solutions that are meaningful to real clinical users in a rapidly evolving environment. Then, ask yourself how many hours you've spent teaching them why/how systems need to operate in order to deliver seamless user interfaces & experience. If you don't like the answers, come sit by me and lets talk.
Happy National Nurses' Week! Today, as we kick off this meaningful celebration, we pay tribute to the heartbeat of our healthcare community. Nurses are the pillars of compassion and care, tirelessly serving others with unwavering dedication. Join us in honoring four remarkable nurses: Nancy Bourg, Amanda Wheeler, Tamara Miller and Dave Stillmunkes. Their teammates recognize them for their unwavering commitment and compassion. #NationalNursesWeek #NursesWeek #ThankANurse

It's National Nurses Week. I would be remiss if I didn't extend my appreciation and gratitude for what these incredible professionals accomplish day in and day out. Spent my career seeing it first hand, although never have they been under the intense risk and pressure as we see in healthcare today. Conversely, there are more tools and solutions available than ever to streamline care and promote operational efficiencies in our healthcare facilities. From mechanical CPR to free hands during resuscitation, to advanced communications systems that bring care teams together, through developments in AI/machine learning to support clinical review and administration. The list goes on. We need more adoption of these tools to help reduce the burden on nursing and free them for what they do best — delivering care and improving the lives of patients and their families. And preparing for the next generation of nursing professionals. Changing lives. Shaping tomorrow. Thank you. https://lnkd.in/gbY4fC6q #nationalnursesweek #nursing #gratitude

Thanks Anthony Lawton for raising this important issue. As #healthcare #professionals we get #paid ( #underpaid) for #physical and #intellectual #labour. There is no #consideration for our #emotional #labour which over time takes its #toll. The 1st step is #raising #awareness 2nd step is #changing #attitudes towards it. The 3rd and most important step is #changing #practice. More of that on #Friday. #NHS #NURSES #DOCTORS #AHP #burnoutprevention #burnout #nursesonlinkedin #nurseslife #nurseleadership 🙏

Recognizing the Emotional Toll on UK Nurses I am currently researching for my book (working title “Fit To Care – The Manual for Nurses in an Overwhelmed NHS) and I have been struck by the interview feedback so far on this topic. If you are a nurse/ know a nurse well, I would love to hear your top three factors that create the most “Emotional Toll”. If you don’t want to share on LinkedIn, feel free to email me [email protected] Here is a taste of the considerations to get into the feedback zone: In the corridors and quiet rooms of our hospitals, UK nurses stand as the compassionate guardians of health, dedicating their days and nights to the well-being of patients. However, behind the scenes of their selfless service lies a nuanced reality – the emotional toll of patient care. Patient care, while deeply rewarding, often places nurses in emotionally charged situations. From grappling with critical illnesses to navigating end-of-life care and challenging patient interactions, our nurses bear witness to the entire spectrum of human experiences. These encounters, filled with both triumphs and heartbreaks, create a unique emotional landscape that nurses must navigate daily. The emotional toll extends beyond the patient's bedside, touching upon the core of a nurse's well-being. Long hours, demanding schedules, and the weight of responsibility contribute to a challenging work environment. As nurses strive to provide the best possible care, it becomes crucial to recognize the toll this commitment takes on their mental and emotional health. It is incumbent upon us all to acknowledge the emotional sacrifices made by nurses during the current challenging times. My update post on Friday will share the feedback from this post and also suggest some of the areas that we should be considering to make the nursing profession easier and more sustainable. “Follow Me” on Linkedin if you would like to join my journey to better support the nursing profession.
