🌍 Today is #EarthDay! 🌍 This Day is a day dedicated to raising awareness about the protection and preservation of our planet and its climate. A good day to take time to rethink technology! 🔍 Greenhouse gases are a major factor impacting our climate, and among the key emission-intensive contributors is the way we procure and use technology devices. This isn’t only relevant on a personal level; it’s also crucial for IT procurement in companies: the principle of “Using over ownership” should no longer just be a trend, but part of a broader shift in societal awareness. 💡 Most emissions – 75% – from IT devices occur during their manufacturing process. Our Green IT study reveals that circular IT usage models can cut CO2 emissions by over 50% through the reuse and lifecycle management of IT assets. The circular economy, with its focus on the use and reuse of e.g. technology, is one of many tools that can help companies reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to climate protection while also reducing operating costs. 🌍 Today is World Environment Day! In an era of increasing environmental awareness, promoting and supporting sustainable practices across all industries is more important than ever. A key starting point is the transition from a linear to a circular economy, which can help to reduce Co2-emissions significantly. The IT sector is a prime example of this. Many people do not realize that IT hardware contributes significantly to the overall emissions of some industries. 🔄 What does this mean? By using IT instead of owning it, companies can regularly update their technological equipment without turning old devices into electronic waste. Instead, these devices are reused, significantly reducing waste and the need for new raw materials. 💪 What can we do? One key figure highlights our impact: In 2023 alone, 895,000 IT lease returns were remarketed through our Technology Centers and partners and given a second life cycle. Our figures show once again that leasing, rental, and as-a-service models based on the circular economy are resilient and future-proof. Despite a challenging environment of geopolitical crises, rising global interest rates, and persistent inflation, the CHG-MERIDIAN Group achieved solid growth in lease originations. In 2023, the volume climbed to €2.45 billion - up 9.9% from the previous year. Our managed technology portfolio also hit a new all-time high with assets worth €10 billion.
