Three top tips to make sure your fundraising is successful in the current climate... I’ve spent 16 years working in the sector and there’s been lots of change in that time. Trends have moved on and so has the world we’re living in. It can be easy to get lost in the weeds but here are my top three things for charities to focus on right now. 1. Reassure your fundraisers that people are still giving Our Donor Pulse research tells us that roughly 70% of the public donates to charity online every three months. That figure has remained stable through the pandemic and the cost of living crisis. We know the public will find a way if they can, so it’s important to remind fundraisers that plenty of people will donate if you give them the chance. Many fundraisers struggle with asking for donations, so try providing them with some useful tips on how to make the perfect ask. 2. Take on a challenge, give fundraisers an experience Challenging events like the TCS London Marathon and Great North Run are a great way to inspire generosity. Just look at this year’s record-breaking Marathon fundraising total of over £67m - achieved despite the cost of living crisis. These challenges also go hand in hand with another important aspect of fundraising: a memorable experience. People want to do something meaningful in exchange for their time. The appetite for this is stronger than ever! 3. Fundraising can be fun, in fact it should be The public has told us that the number one thing they want from a fundraising event is fun. Just because someone is raising money for a serious issue doesn’t mean the fundraising itself can’t be enjoyable. In fact, it’s probably the easiest way to encourage people to get involved. Make it a fun event they want to take part in regardless of the cause. Let me know if I’ve missed anything in the comments 👇 #Charity #Fundraising

What’s the main thing the public wants in a fundraising event? Fun. That’s what we’ve learned from our new Donor Pulse report, which launched today. The appetite for fundraising events in 2024 is healthy. 44% say they’re likely to get involved in one this year. A further 10% say they’re open to it. And there’s nothing that says raising money for a good cause has to be a chore. 53% of people described their ideal charity event as fun. 40% want it to be sociable. I think the public is trying to tell us something. You don’t have to scroll for long to find a bad news story at the moment. When that’s what’s surrounding us, it’s no surprise that some levity and time with friends and family is high on the agenda for many. At their best, fundraising events are a celebration of humanity. The charities that can tap into that look set for success in 2024. Let me know if you’re hearing the same in your conversations with fundraisers 👇 Get your free copy of Donor Pulse here: https://lnkd.in/e2ry4X7j #DigitalFundraising #FundraisingEvents #DonorPulse

Charity sector specialist strategist, planner, creative, trainer & implementation specialist - expert in fundraising/income generation, stakeholder engagement, innovation, marketing and communications.
Does your charity have established public fundraising income streams? Are you seeing a worrying decline in your income generation results? Or does it just feel like there’s a lot at stake over the coming months (particularly from your planned Q3 activities, because this is such an important income generation period for many charities)? Perhaps you'd benefit from a fresh perspective and expert support to make sure your fundraising activities over Q3 are optimal. I can help you identify: - Where your untapped opportunities are (quick wins and longer-term gains) - Where small changes to existing activities will increase your net income now - Where you can focus your resources to increase your return on investment (in the short, medium, and long-term) I have very limited availability over the summer to support charities who want an expert review of their public fundraising plans and activities in time to ensure the best possible results during quarter three of this financial year (and benefits to your longer-term income generation). This can be across any of these income streams: - Individual giving - Prize led giving - In memory giving - Events fundraising - Community fundraising - Trading / e-commerce I love sharing the experience I've gleaned over 25 years working in public fundraising, across more than 120 charities, on hundreds of appeals and campaigns, to help the charities I work with achieve far better results than they thought possible. My flexible way of working means there's always ways you can access my expertise and support that fit with your budgets and team structure. But we'll need to get started soon to make sure your Q3 fundraising results are the best they can possibly be in this challenging climate. So, if you want to raise thousands more in unrestricted income and re-engage hundreds or thousands more of your supporters in the process, ping me a DM and we can book a free exploratory call while there's still time to get your ducks in a row. (Please note, it's highly unlikely any ducks will feature - unless your charity's mission includes ducks) #fundraising #PublicFundraising #IndividualGiving #Results #IncomeGeneration #Q3

Want to inspire supporters to donate? Doing good just isn’t enough. Whilst your work might be life-changingly-brilliant it alone won’t secure donations. Some of the challenges I see often are: 🫥No one knows you are actually a charitable cause. They think you are part of the council, or maybe a club or group, who knows! 💷 No one knows how you pay for what you do, or they don’t realise it costs anything at all, so they don’t know you need and are reliant on donations. 📋 You don’t know what you are planning to do next, or what it will cost. Donors like to support tangible change. ❗️You don’t talk about the good stuff you do with any urgency, you are too passive and polite and don’t shout about the difference you make and the need you serve. 🤹♀️You forgot that fundraising is a whole team effort. A fundraiser (or even a gaggle of them) can’t do it all alone. Fundraising starts with brilliant relationships inside your organisation which helps to develop brilliant relationships with supporters. To be fundable you need to have great messaging, strong plans and budgets and a fundraising culture, oh and do good life-changing stuff too. Easy! 🫠 #Fundraising #Donations

Fundraising and communications for UK & US non-profits: Trust Fundraising, Campaigns, Websites & more 🚀 | Life & Business Coach 🫱🏼🫲🏾
I’m amazed by the generosity of supporters, and have been humbled to see five and six figure sums given to charity. But the truth is, any amount is incredible because no one has to give and it’s often a sacrificial choice ❤️ Even if the amount seems inconsequential to you, it may have the power to transform somebody else’s world 😇 It may come naturally for you to give money, but we may overlook the many other ways in which donors generously give to support a charity’s mission. Here’s just a handful of examples… ⏱ Volunteering time, expertise, or perhaps donating office space for a charity’s use. 🎟 Organising a fundraising event for a cause close to your heart - like the amazing humans hiking Kilimanjaro in aid of Hope4❤️ with Chris ❤️ Lomas (have you sponsored them yet?) 🍎 Donating tangible items such as foodbank supplies, clothes, books, or prizes for an auction. 🤝 Forming mutually beneficial partnerships between businesses and charities. Whatever the method, you are helping charities to further their cause, helping people to live a better story. There are endless giving opportunities - find a method that’s enjoyable and resonates with YOU ☺️ What’s your favourite way of giving? #fundraising #giving #charity

Useful insight about the differences between fundraising and awareness events.
Fundraising consultant, 10 years supporting organizations to raise millions. Clients include YMCA, BBBS, Ronald McDonald House and more!
Are you running a charity and struggling to increase your net revenue? As a consultant who works with many charities, I understand the challenges of hosting multiple events per year without seeing a significant increase in funds. You’re not alone! Our group coaching clients just chatted about this yesterday. It's common for board directors and colleagues to suggest hosting another event without understanding the difference between fundraising and awareness events. While awareness events are great for promoting your cause and attracting people who may help your mission with a donation down the road, fundraising events have a sole purpose of raising revenue immediately. Net revenue! And taking staff time into account! Before organizing any event, it's crucial to have a fundraising plan in place and evaluate the potential net revenue. If the event isn't going to generate significant funds, it shouldn't be called a fundraising event, and the fundraising staff shouldn't be responsible for it. And if they are, the organization needs to be okay with revenue decreasing in other fundraising strategies as their attention shifts to managing an awareness event. Those of you who know me know my opinion is fairly strong on this topic. 😅 I’m curious to know how nonprofit folks are feeling about events these days if anyone wants to add a comment below!

Small is beautiful Why I, as Appeals Director of a large charity, often envied small ones “Ah, but we’re a small charity. None of what you’re doing applies to us.” I have heard this so often. And it’s so frustrating. Philanthropy is universal. Donors are donors. Whether we’re large or small. National or local. Donors need to give. And every charity can inspire people to want to give to help their cause. As Appeals Director of the NSPCC, I often used to think, “If we were a small charity, we could do that. But, dammit, as a large charity, we can’t.” I don’t think I’m going to get much sympathy from you, here, but let me try to give some real and practical examples of where small charities can do things the NSPCC couldn’t. Whatever you do, and wherever you do it, you have a base of people who will be inspired by your cause, however local or niche, and be ready to support you. Your charity exists because your founders identified a need, and joined together to work towards meeting that need, with their own time and money, spent on engaging others. Put yourself in their shoes, and you won’t go far wrong. If your founders hadn’t been successful, you wouldn’t be in the role you are now. https://lnkd.in/eB6wcTHF

I’d cautiously throw in Corporates. We all know it can backfire, but the right charity with the right corporate (ie aligned purpose) is a real win-win, especially with ESG strategies now forming a key part of corporate narrative. There are great case studies but I feel the sector is yet to nail this valuable opportunity.
