In “liberated areas” in Sagaing region and Kayah state, for example, there are innovations in governance and new experiments in using federal principles at the local level. Local civil society and community organizations, from national to township and village level, are also playing a key role in mediation and coordination not only over distribution of humanitarian aid but also in local governance. These new practices and forms of local governance are varied and by no means all democratic in nature, yet they have created an opportunity for reenvisaging and redesigning local governance in the country, in a way that has largely been impossible since independence from Britain more than 70 years ago.

#DemocracyDelivers! In Prizren, Kosovo, democracy is empowering citizens to drive meaningful change in their communities. With the support of the USAID Social Contract Activity, citizens united to address a vital need: accessible public sanitation units. Through the Social Contract Agenda, a collaborative platform supported by the Activity, citizens and local leaders came together to prioritize key issues and turn this idea into reality. Thanks to this initiative, they were able to break ground on new facilities that will enhance public access. This project is more than just a public works effort—it's a clear example of how democracy empowers citizens to shape their environment, making public spaces more inclusive and accessible for everyone. The Persons with Dystrophy Organization and other local advocates recognized the significance of this project, celebrating its potential to enhance everyday life for many. This story shows how, when citizens and governments work together, democracy truly delivers by addressing real community needs. #DemocracyDelivers #Prizren #SocialContractAgenda #InclusiveSpaces #CivicEngagement #Kosovo

In this time of reconciliation and when funding for First Nations Peoples and communities is needed more than ever budget cuts to Indigenous Services should never even be a consideration. This appears to once again display the complete lack of accountability and the ongoing open disregard for First Nations Peoples and communities. #indigenousrights #indigenoushumanrights #indigenousinherentrights #indigenoussocialjustice #toxicinsidiouscolonialism #toxicovertcolonialism https://lnkd.in/eZC-5x6u
