"The state's coastal authority said Thursday it remained committed to constructing its controversial $3 billion land-building project, responding to concerns that the unprecedented Mississippi River diversion could be shelved after Gov. Jeff Landry's new administration sent mixed signals over its support. While the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority statement appeared unequivocal, the Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion is still being challenged in court. One of Landry's new point men on coastal issues had also said last week a report is being compiled on all aspects of the project to date for the governor and implied no position had been taken... It sought to clarify CPRA Chairman Gordon Dove's comments last week, saying he and the Landry administration "have requested that CPRA prepare a comprehensive report on the history and status" of the project that could "serve as a resource for getting the administration up to speed." "This is not abnormal for incoming leadership, and due to the magnitude, importance, and visibility of this multi-billion-dollar project, compiling this information will be helpful to all in documenting the extensive efforts to date," it said. The statement added that "at this time, we have not received requests to re-analyze work such as the extensive modeling analysis or science used" to evaluate the project. The project is strongly opposed by commercial fishers and Plaquemines Parish officials. The CPRA statement came a day after Plaquemines Parish re-issued a cease-and-desist order halting work at the site near the Ironton community on the west bank of the river..." #DeepwaterHorizon #RESTORE #Louisiana #CPRA #CoastalMasterPlan #MidBarataria #Landry #Plaquemines #MississippiRiver https://lnkd.in/gPziJCpJ

Attention regulators, consultants, and site owners! Have you ever wondered if Ellingson-DTD has worked in your state? Since the early 1990s, we've kept a detailed list of reference projects and are proud to say that our crews have installed, abandoned, or rehabilitated horizontal remediation or water supply wells in most states. Check out the US map below to see the states we've worked in (highlighted in green). And even though Puerto Rico isn't a state, we've installed horizontal wells in that US territory too. We're always looking to expand our reach and hope to turn the rest of the map green shortly! #EllingsonDTD #remediation #watertreatment #environmentalengineering #PuertoRico #USstates #horizontaldirectionaldrilling

Across Florida, over 2.6 million aging septic tanks are breaking down, leaking toxins that threaten environmental quality of life and contributing to algae blooms in the near-shore waters. Since much of Florida’s soil is not suitable for septic tank installation, essential collection and treatment functions are virtually impossible. That’s why E/One’s ALL-TERRAIN SEWER system has become the effective and economical solution of choice in septic tank abandonment and septic-to-sewer conversion programs across Florida — including the Florida Keys. See how we provided critical infrastructure with lower construction costs, fewer community disruptions, and minimal environmental impact here: https://lnkd.in/gPsDXkyE

Do I have a Wetland, Ditch or Stream on my Property? What are you restoring for your mitigation bank project? A ditch, stream, wetland or stream and wetland complex? It matters and will affect the definition of the permanent conservation easement boundaries that will be placed over your restoration project. And each one has its own nuances and easement boundaries and regulations. https://conta.cc/41N7f2B

Team OHM had an incredible showing at the Ohio Stormwater Association's 17th Annual Ohio Stormwater Conference, where industry leaders gathered to discuss stormwater and watershed management advancements. OHMers Alexandra Litofsky, P.E. and Karlin Danielsen shared valuable insights at the event, and today, we're highlighting key takeaways from their presentations: 🔹Alex focused on community engagement's transformative role in redeveloping vacant lots, showcasing the Invigorate Gallery project in Cleveland's Hough neighborhood - an initiative that illustrates how grassroots efforts and green infrastructure can revitalize spaces and foster environmental justice. 🌱 🔹 The key lesson learned? By showing up in our communities and forming connections, we can expand the impact of our work on a grassroots level, opening access to our industry and learning from our neighbors’ perspectives. 🔸 Karlin presented her Great Lakes Water Authority pilot study, demonstrating real-time bacteria monitoring using Tryptophan-like Fluorescence (TLF) to predict E. Coli concentrations, supporting watershed characterization and improving combined sewer overflow (CSO) management. 💧 🔸 CSO-driven E. coli loading has a unique response depending on the season, storm magnitude, and storm intensity. While the predictive algorithm showed promising qualitative insights into watershed dynamics, further work is needed to enhance quantitative accuracy in complex environments. These efforts exemplify OHM's commitment to innovative solutions in stormwater management and community-driven projects. Don't miss the 2nd in our Florida Engineering Society (FES) Water Webinar Series on May 14. The Future of Water Supply in Florida - ONE WATER with Gary Hubbard, PE a Board Member of Resiliency Florida, an “A” Water Treatment Operator, and an “A” Wastewater Treatment Operator, and runs the City of Winter Haven Water Department which is an early adopter of the One Water concept. 1 pdh ($50 for FES/ ACEC-FL members) Gone are the days that communities implement water supply projects where the only benefit to the community is a source of drinking water. Winter Haven’s One Water Master uses integrated water resources management to meet the water resources needs of the community long into the future. Using engineered nature based solutions, the City plans to restore approximately 5,000 acres of historically ditched and drained wetlands to create wetland nature parks with trail systems for the storage of water, serving as a source for aquifer recharge for future water supply, improves flood protection for the region and communities 100 miles downstream to the Gulf of Mexico, helps sustain the local hydrology (lake levels) during periods of drought, improves urban forestry, improves the water quality and the low flow of the Peace River, provide recreational opportunities for the residents of Central Florida, improve the health and wellness of our citizens, provides for additional wildlife habitat and localized increased property values by creating waterfront properties. #floridaengineering #floridawater #waterwebinar #onewater #floridawaterresources https://lnkd.in/e5BXGpCU
