Summerdale High’s first matrics want to leave their mark It's great to see the commitment and enthusiasm of the Grade 11 pupils at Summerdale High School as they prepare to become the school's first matric class in 2024. Their determination to leave an inspiring legacy for their younger peers is commendable. The involvement of the United Nations Youth Association (UNYA) in running leadership programs at the school and encouraging positive influence is a valuable initiative. It's important to showcase the positive work being done by students and to prepare them to become global citizens who can make a difference in the world. The emphasis on educating youth about the UN's sustainable development goals and their role in addressing global challenges, including climate change, is crucial for shaping responsible and informed future leaders. It will be interesting to see how this group of students continues to make a positive impact as they progress towards their matric year and beyond. Their efforts serve as an inspiration to others in the community. #henryjacobs #UNYASouthAfrica #SummerdaleHigh #MatricClass #UNYA #GlobalCitizens #LeadershipPrograms #YouthEmpowerment #SustainableDevelopmentGoals #EducationForChange #InspiringYouth #CommunityUpliftment https://lnkd.in/dbyDayVm

5X LinkedIn Top Voice 📈Emotional Intelligence & Educational Consultant 📚Thought-Leader in Unlocking The Genius in Black Male Students 💡Founder and President of The BlackMaleImpact | Author📝 | Expert in Mentorship
HBCUs are built on a framework of creating an environment where the students they serve will feel safe and seen. Every student deserves to be valued and respected. With that said, creating an environment where students feel safe and seen is fundamental to their personal growth, academic success, and well-being. It enhances the university's overall effectiveness in fulfilling its mission to educate, empower, and uplift its students, creating a positive and transformative impact on the lives of all who choose to attend. HBCUs understand that out in society can be uncaring and even discriminate against Black students, and with that awareness, they know how feeling safe and seen cultivates a sense of belonging and community within the university. That is part of the fabric of HBCUs, and when students feel safe and seen, students are more likely to engage actively in campus life and build meaningful relationships with peers, faculty, and staff. By the way, every student, at times, will need support on the academic journey, and being that on an HBCU campus, you will feel safe and seen makes it more likely to seek and use available support services, such as counseling, academic advising, and career guidance. Additionally, when students feel safe and seen, they are more likely to express themselves, participate in class discussions, and take on leadership roles. Besides, there are going to be some students who will start their academic journey not knowing there's a leader in them, and being in an environment that validates who they are can make that which is dormant come to the surface. Besides, it empowers them to build self-confidence and become active learners. _______________ The link to my books https://lnkd.in/gk95Xfi _______________ POSITIVELY SHAPING THE FUTURE™ #1millionblackmalestudents #motivation #inspiration #education #mentoring #HBCUsMatter #mindset #blackexcellence #economicmobility #HBCUs #NextGeneration #FirstGeneration #CollegeEducation #BlackStudentsMatter #socialmobility #changethenarrative #HigherEducation #SelfIdentity #Book2023 #RichardACross #mentoringworks

Should school district mission statements explicitly mention diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI)? With political debates intensifying, it’s interesting that only 34% of district mission statements nationwide reference DEI. Some districts choose to focus on fostering inclusion and belonging for all #students without using specific buzzwords. The key takeaway? It's about actions, not just words. Every student should feel seen, heard, and valued. How do you think schools should approach this? #equityandinclusion #equityineducation #k12 #teachers #leadership #leaders #schools #education

Bursaries to help non-white teachers get on the leadership ladder and a specific teacher training route for those without required qualifications could be considered to boost workforce diversity, a new report has suggested. The ‘ethnic diversity in the teaching workforce’ evidence review, published by the National Foundation for Education Research has found that four times as many teachers of colour would need to be promoted to head teacher for the role to be representative of the wider population. https://bit.ly/3usCTX3 #ReedEducation #education #schoolleaders #schools #diversity
