As you know, we at Rolls-Royce are convinced that Methanol is one of the most promising fuels for the future. While it’s a sustainable e-fuel for commercial marine industry, of course it’s still important to talk about its emissions. The decisive factor in this context is the method of its production, even before it is used in a combustion engine. E-methanol emerges as one of the most efficacious means of emission reduction, releasing only the emissions bound during its production at best. Consequently, methanol exhibits a superior CO2 balance compared to conventional fossil fuels. And until 2050 min. 35% of all aviation fuels has to be produced via CCU! CO2 Value Europe estimates even up to 60% – that would mean 30 Mio t kerosene! Huge investments will come and the by-product e-naphtha will feed the chemical industry. Extreme interesting times for CCU. I will present different scenarios for 2050 at the conference.

It’s time to share our latest news with you! 🕰️ 📣 Hydrogenious and Evonik are excited to announce that we’ll be jointly developing, scaling up and producing proprietary fixed bed catalysts for mobile applications of Hydrogenious’ LOHC (liquid organic hydrogen carriers) technology. 🗣️ “We are committed to bringing our expertise in catalysis to jointly develop processes with the Hydrogenious team, that will help to transform the industry from fossil-based to sustainable feedstock,” says Michael Frey, Head of Product Line Polyolefin and Continuous Process Catalysts at Evonik. A safe, cost-efficient and flexible process, it chemically binds hydrogen synthesized by sustainable energy to the LOHC-BT (benzyl toluene) – which is then transported to the off-taker site. In mobile applications, the hydrogen is released on board to power propulsion units. 🧪 🗓️ Catalysts for pilot plants and commercial units are expected to be available from 2026 onwards. I am happy to share that BASF Environmental Catalyst and Metal Solutions (ECMS) has successfully completed the carve-out of our precious metals services and mobile emissions catalysts businesses from BASF.   Metals are not just our business; they are our passion. At ECMS, we take immense pride in providing sustainable metals solutions. Today, we offer robust recycling solutions, helping significantly reduce CO2 emissions and contributing to the circular economy. But this is just the beginning of our journey.   We see huge opportunities on both ends of the hydrogen economy value chain – hydrogen production via water electrolysis and hydrogen use in fuel cell electric vehicles.
