"Companies need to triple their efforts to reduce emissions intensity in the next 5 years to align with a 1.5 trajectory." This recent discovery by the World Benchmarking Alliance highlights the growing importance of energy-efficient solutions. But what does that mean for heavy industries? How can they contribute to reducing global warming to below 1.5 degrees? Business Manager Basri Pehlivan provides insight into the environmental challenges currently being faced by European heavy industries and discusses potential solutions that can help maintain a competitive edge. 👊 Learn more in our recent insight: https://lnkd.in/dcgzJ78Y #catalay #engineering #insight #sustainability #heavyindustry #expertise #technology #carbonfootprint

With global temperatures already at 1.1 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, urgent action is required to limit global warming to below 1.5 degrees Celsius to avert catastrophic climate impacts. This study advocates for the strategic implementation of carbon pricing, specifically through carbon tax and emissions trading systems, as a critical tool to curtail fossil fuel consumption and drive markets and industries towards clean energy solutions at an accelerated pace. By internalizing the external costs of carbon emissions, carbon pricing mechanisms create economic incentives that drive innovation, investment, and behavioral changes towards low-carbon alternatives. Through a comprehensive review of existing literature, policy analyses, and case studies, this research elucidates the potential of carbon pricing to reshape market dynamics and induce a systemic shift towards clean energy solutions.

Methane gas is responsible for about 30% of the global warming that has occurred since the Industrial Revolution. On current trends, total methane emissions from human activities could increase by up to 13% between 2020 and 2030, but under scenarios that limit warming to 1.5°C, they should decrease by 30-60% in the same interval. The Global Methane Pledge aims to reduce global methane emissions by at least 30% from 2020 to 2030 levels – and has more than 150 signatories. Commitments can be achieved through improved monitoring and reporting of emissions, further technological innovation to generate large-scale solutions. In this regard, the World Bank plans to launch at least 15 national methane reduction programs in the next 18 months. #FironBarNir #attorneys #legal #advisory #environment #compliance

Did COP28 go far enough to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees? The answer from our guests on our latest ‘Insights for leaders’ event was probably not. But the commitments do take us another step in the right direction. COP28 Discusses Language but how about ACTION? With fossil fuel lobbyists dominating and the leader Al Jabber doubting that we don’t need to transition out of fossil fuels, what can you expect? It’s taken eight years since the 2015 Paris Agreement for the rich nations to finally come up $100 billion to help developing nations when they need more like $2 trillion. Talk about helping with Adaptation is inadequate. The world actually needs a global disaster alert, management and risk reduction strategy. What happened to transitioning out of coal? Or the alliances for zero emissions vehicles and solar energy. Meanwhile greenhouse gas emissions continue increasing snd the world keeps breaking records for heat, and catastrophic floods, storms and wildfires. Seattle has just been hit with an atmospheric river dumping massive amounts of rain. We need ACTIONS now that are ten times more aggressive!

2023 has been a landmark year for the planet, giving us a glimpse of the future that awaits us if global warming continues unchecked. With this in mind, Bloomberg has partnered with Carbon Growth Partners to produce this whitepaper that aims to show the importance of carbon credits in the transition to a net-zero economy — and make it clear just how easy it is for organizations to use offsets as part of their journey to net-zero. #netzerotransition #bnef
