Throwing money at people (aka Oya Take Your Own) will not ratify the excessive looting and expenditure the Ruling Party and friends have embarked on . Rather than throw bread scraps at us, so that you can get on with the lavish astounding expenditures on self, use the funds in question - alongside the funds you could have saved to make life easier for the millions you have foisted your ministration/service on. You want to give people a Derica tin of rice, so that while they are foolishly distracted, you can expend hundreds of billions of Naira making yourselves very comfortable APC what have Nigerians done to you - are you sure that you're Nigerians? People cannot afford their medication because you hiked exchange rate, but some how forgot to designate medicals as duty-free items. #LoudSpending #StateOfTheArt4WheelDrives #presidentialyacht #UndependablePromises https://lnkd.in/djA2EcBC

I was listening to this podcast over the weekend and listening to in within the filter of working in the Refugee and Migrant Finance world for 5 years as a Financial Inclusion Officer. In this episode of Money Box, whilst the National Insurance cut is welcome it will benefit refugees on higher earnings, it will only be incrementally beneficial to those on lower income. However, far more concerning is the level of Council tax debt increasing across the general population with an average of more than £1,700. This correlates with the amounts I saw working with refugees, with an incremental increase over time. However, when refugees were applying for family reunion where there are associated costs of £2000 to £10,000 on Legal fees, DNA tests, translation of documents etc or there was an emergency back home, one of the first debts to increase is council tax. This is due to disposable income being repurposed to assist their family members. The rational being, that council tax debts can be consolidated now and again, with token payments or larger payments sourced from the community. This is understandable way to manage council tax debts and support family overseas back home in parallel. There is a risk, in ILR and British Citizenship applications that non-payment of council tax could complicate immigration applications - Home Office Nationality: good character requirement Version 4.0 (p.40). My advice on this matter has always been, when working with clients, is to set up standing order or direct debit for token payments of between £1 to £5, as with higher repayment plans, there is too much volatility often, resulting in failed resettlement plans. With small Token payments via DD and SO, it allows for the payments to be recorded on bank statements etc useful if needed for Home Office or Magistrates court. This is the compromise I found most useful when working with refugees given their multi-dimensional, transnational and diasporic personal financial decisions. #CouncilTaxDebt #Debt #PersonalFinance

Wise has spent a long time calling out hidden fees. Most providers are giving you a jumped up exchange rate, and penalising you with other nonsense fees. The costs are worse for small businesses, yet are too often assumed to be a part of business as usual. For SMBs in the North and Scotland, this ‘BAU’ cost is c. £400k a year. That’s money that could create jobs, cut prices or be kept safe for rainy days. Instead, it’s bumping up banks’ profits. The Government could help. Current payments regulation, already patchy, barely applies to SMBs thanks to a ‘corporate opt out’. This means banks can easily hide fees from SMBs, making it tough to compare the market. It might not be a sexy problem, but it’s a big one - and can be fixed without costing the taxpayer a penny. 🏴 Here’s what it means in Scotland: https://lnkd.in/eVDTFchF 💼 In Yorkshire: https://lnkd.in/eRqbfaSR 🖋 And a wider look by Jack Maddock: https://lnkd.in/e3BTf9dY Good to work on this with Kate Hutchinson and the team at Hatch Group, plus Josh Wheeler and Hannah McGrath.

𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗟𝗜𝗠𝗨𝗥𝗨 𝗧𝗘𝗡𝗔𝗡𝗧 𝗦𝗪𝗜𝗡𝗗𝗟𝗘𝗗 𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗟𝗢𝗥𝗗 𝟰 𝗬𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗦 𝗥𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗕𝗬 𝗣𝗔𝗬𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗞𝗦𝗛 𝟳𝟬𝟬 𝗠𝗢𝗡𝗧𝗛𝗟𝗬 A tenant in Limuru, Kiambu County is accused of swindling a landlord for 4 years by paying Ksh 700 monthly and editing the mobile money payment messages. The accused is said to have paid Ksh 700 to the bank then edited the bank statement to reflect like he had paid Ksh 7,000 and finally forwarding the message to the owner with the same transactional code. “He owes us 4-year rent arrears, 10 per cent defaulting fee plus damages totalling to Ksh 400,000,” the landlord who spoke out on Wednesday told journalists. Even more interesting in this particular case is the fact that the tenant served as a caretaker in the same building before quitting in 2019 prompting the landlord to demand monthly rent payment from him. A tenant at the building highlighted that there is a likelihood that he had been doing that for a long time without being caught. The accused's wife defended her husband claiming that there was a mutual agreement that their rent be waivered. However, the receipts of the transaction showed otherwise depicting altered bank statements. “They agreed that he should not pay rent, I'm even surprised that they claim that he has rent arrears.” However, as the case is said to be in the civil courts, a word of caution has been sent to caretakers and landlords over the authenticity of mobile money messages and bank statements sent to them as proof of rent payment. This revelation highlights the challenges that landlords face at the hands of deceptive tenants who are ready to deceive them through mobile transactions. Reports from the Central Bank of Kenya indicate that many Kenyans opt to pay via paybill rather than going to the bank or paying physically forcing landlords to accept this as a valid form of payment. #Kenyans #Rent #Landlord

I get what he’s trying to do, however, once again, this is disingenuous. 0.13% of Canadians is completely wrong. He failed to mention all the Canadian small business owners and professionals that are incorporated do not gain access to the $250,000 exemption amount. What happened to “helping small business”? Now they need to pay a “little more” after taking away all family income splitting opportunities. Much less common, however still an issue, Canadians with properties in trusts (such as family cabins) also can’t take advantage of the $250,000 exemption. However, I guess if you keep labeling these changes as “the rich need to pay more” it will work on many voters…
