The ideas that were shared in this PD were cute and practical. Having an entire classes success rely on a secret student is such a simple idea yet so effective. Class management is a question posed in every single interview I have ever had. The school I work at genuinely has some of the best teachers I’ve encountered. Every teacher wants to share information for the betterment of the school, so the kids know what type of behaviour is expected (consistently) for their success. The teachers know what’s expected so there isn’t any unnecessary upheaval , generally teachers are positive and happy to be at school (says a lot about the administration and the culture as a whole). Teachers sharing what works, without embellishment is just so wholesome. If you need some practical ideas on how to get students excited especially in grades 5 to 12 - I know a few people ;)

Strive to create a work environment that's based on high accountability but also high fun—two things that oftentimes don't coexist. Typically, "high accountability" = stuffy, intimidating, and fear-based. On the other hand, if someone says their workplace is "fun," people probably assume they slack off, don't take their work seriously, or aren't super productive. So, how does a leader walk that line of high accountability-high fun? It all comes back to culture. If you create a really clear culture where employees know what's expected of them but also feel comfortable enough to get a good laugh in, that's where the magic is. This is one of the things Deion Sanders has done super well as a leader and something that's inspired me in the way I try to lead. Sports are a great case study in leadership, teamwork, and discipline—they're a really good analog for winning in business. The outdoors shouldn't be intimidating; it should be inclusive.” Toni-Ann Murphy, an OUTO Changemaker Alumni, recently completed a Two-day Lowland Leader Training Course with RAW Adventures and Mountain Training on n April 21-22, 2024. 🔥 Reflecting on her experience, Toni-Ann shared her profound motivations and newfound skills: "For me, initiating this journey was pivotal. I aspire to extend the horizons of Touch Grass CIC members beyond familiar territories like London. It's about creating a space where queer women and non-binary people of color feel not just welcomed but empowered in the outdoors. To achieve this vision, I realized the importance of venturing beyond my comfort zone." Under the guidance of guide, Gwyds from RAW Adventures, Toni-Ann honed her map-reading and compass skills, gaining confidence in leading outdoor excursions. "Gwyds was an exceptional instructor, fostering an environment where we could take charge. Now, I not only radiate vibes but also possess the know-how. 💪 "Emphasizing the significance of qualifications and training, Toni-Ann highlighted their role in diversifying outdoor leadership. "When individuals see someone like me in a leadership role, it sparks inspiration and cultivates a sense of belonging. Today some of our Worthington Works committee had the opportunity to learn what our schools are doing to prepare our future workforce, along with a hard hat tour of the Thomas Worthington High School construction. Hearing the amazing things our schools are doing made me think of a few things we need to do more of at home: 1. We need to teach and exemplify soft skills at home to help our children learn these skills. 2. We must allow for experiential learning so our children learn what they like and don’t like in order for them to learn what careers they may be interested in. We can’t force what’s next, but can encourage opportunities to experience new things. 3. As parents, it’s essential we teach what’s important in life things like commitment, overcoming adversity and showing up on time…and that not everyone can be an influencer or travel for a year. #workforce #leadership
