Our Volunteer Program attracts PhDs and undergrads, people returning to the workforce, career changers and folks from around the world: all of whom are looking for opportunities to learn, create impact, and take a more active role in the fight against climate change in their spare time. The program is valued by companies and volunteers alike. Along with carbon measurement, volunteers work on design, engineering, research, regulatory, and creative projects. Interested in getting involved? Want to learn more about current projects? Join our next Volunteer Call on August 6th at 9:30am PT. With just over a year and a half in my position as the Youth Services Coordinator at the International Rescue Committee, I have been reflecting on some things I have learned that I wish I knew at the start of my career! 1. Data: Nothing gets done without data! Shout out to Alex Laywell for introducing me to the importance of data collection and tracking. If I want to propose change or improve services, I need data to prove what our clients needs are. 2. Leadership: Promotions and high positions do not qualify me as a leader but how I empathize, trust my staff and exemplify the IRCs mission and values do. 3. Advocacy: Advocacy is not only an external struggle but can be internal too. I have learned that I sometimes have to advocate more for my clients to HQ/SLT, funders and other departments than within the community. 4. Mentorship: Find a person in the office you admire and learn from them. I learned to ask for advice often and be open to feedback. Rachel Worley has been instramental in pushing me to learn, grow and achieve more than I thought I could! I am so grateful for my team, my supervisors and my coworkers turned friends who have supported and encouraged me so far. I am excited to see what the future hold and the growth that is coming! #refugee #resettlement #youthprogramming #yayyouth!

How to Volunteer When You’re Under 18 Finding the perfect volunteer opportunity as a student can be a transformative experience, offering a chance to make a positive impact while developing valuable skills and meeting like-minded peers. Whether your interests lie in education, environmental conservation, healthcare, or the arts, there are countless ways to get involved and give back to your community. The relevance of volunteering today extends beyond just personal growth; it also addresses pressing societal and environmental issues. For instance, participating in environmental conservation projects helps combat climate change, while volunteering in healthcare settings provides essential support to vulnerable populations. As young volunteers engage in these activities, they develop a sense of empathy, social responsibility, and a deeper understanding of global challenges. This early involvement not only empowers them to become active citizens but also lays the groundwork for a lifetime of civic engagement and leadership. At Ámaxa, we are dedicated to helping students find meaningful volunteer opportunities that align with their interests and passions. We believe that everyone, regardless of age, can make a difference. Our organization connects young volunteers with various projects and initiatives, providing them with the resources and support needed to succeed. Whether you're interested in community service, environmental advocacy, or cultural enrichment, Ámaxa is here to guide you in making a positive impact. Join us and discover how you can contribute to a better future for all. Insightful as always, thank you Michel Bauwens. I would like to argue that we need to go beyond the commons and find this social cohesion through both immanence and transcendence. We need to embrace our spiritual nature, to experience what being alive really means, to expand our consciousness and to become what we are meant to be. The paradigm shift is a new state of being, a new way to be in the world. The "Manifesto for a Civil Society in Service of Life" presents 10 rallying points intended to serve as a foundation for our common projects in service of Life. It’s been signed already by more than 1700 people and 16 collectives in the francophonie. This deep transformation is under way driven by Life itself and more and more people are joining a movement that goes well beyond the usual boundaries of social, economical or political concepts and affiliations. The application for the next cohort of the Working Towards Racial Equity (WTRE) Series is now open! What is WTRE? 👇 The Lawrence Hall of Science and Justice Outside launched the Working Towards Racial Equity workshop series in 2018 and are officially ready to invite a new cohort of organizations to participate! This series and associated research study supports environmental and outdoor science organizations (including those dedicated to outdoor learning, #environmentaljustice, #environmentalscience, #environmentalliteracy, youth development, and community development) to build capacity to foster equitable, inclusive, and culturally relevant work environments and organizations. It centers #racialequity in its approach because we recognize that racism is at the heart of inequity in the environmental field and in the United States, broadly. We are accepting applications for 5 mid-sized outdoor science organizations (~20-75 staff) to learn with us. The project will kick off with an in-person convening in February of 2025, and activities (in-person and virtual) will continue through to early 2028. What are you waiting for?! Applications are due May 1st at noon. Visit lwrnce.org/WTRE to learn more and apply. #outdoorscience #outdoorscienceorganization
