The onyx dial is a nice touch in case you noticed that. You had MONEY if you bought this in the 80s. The retail on these examples were around double the price of Rolex Daydates. People who really wanted to spend money on a watch or wanted to show that they had the money to spend were on examples like this or the Rolex King Midas. These watches were the gold standard (no pun intended). The Rolex Daydate in gold was and is still a great watch, one my personal favorites, but these gold watches were the ultimate end game for gold.
