[NEWS] BRUT MILLÉSIMÉ 2015
The wine is white gold in colour with a fine and persistent sparkle.
A nose of great complexity offering notes of beeswax, candied lemon,
honeysuckle and hawthorn followed by aromas of toast and orange.
A lively attack that gives way to a creamy and elegant palate with notes of
candied lemon and honeysuckle.

‘Is this the world's greatest Pinotage?’ – Tim Atkin, 97 points
The 2021 Kanonkop Black Label Pinotage straddles the line between luxury and fine wine. Light-footed and balanced, it showcases the clarity and vibrance of this superb vintage.
The 2021 Black Label seduces with dark, bruised florals and raspberry fruit, wrapped in an aromatic blanket of fine vanilla, cocoa bean, and dark cherry tobacco. The nose promises elegance and the palate delivers – offering concentrated mid-palate fruit and subtle tannins for a juicy, yet finely constructed backbone. Surely their best vintage yet, this is the ultimate expression of Pinotage.
From Kanonkop’s oldest block on the slopes of the Simonsberg, the vineyard is now entering its seventh decade. Its old bush vines yield small, concentrated berries which allow Abrie Beeslaar’s minimal-intervention approach in the cellar to coax a refined, seamless, super-energetic wine.
Abrie follows in the legendary footsteps of Jan ‘Boland’ Coetzee and Beyers Truter, whose reputations were largely built on the Pinotage they made at Kanonkop. Considered an ‘SA First Growth’, Kanonkop’s Black Label Pinotage is the pinnacle of this grape.

Empty bourbon barrels can be a treasure trove for maturing other spirits.
Bourbon barrels, with their charred oak interiors and unique flavor profiles, offer the perfect canvas for enhancing and transforming spirits.
Whether it's whiskey, rum, or even beer, these barrels infuse rich flavors and impart a distinct character to the liquid they hold.
At 30 gallons, these barrels are an ideal size for experimental batches, craft distilleries, or those looking to create limited-edition blends.
The smaller size allows for a faster aging process and greater surface area interaction, resulting in a more pronounced influence on the spirit.
Art and Cask has secured another batch of 360x 30 Gallons,1st fill, Craft Bourbon barrels from a well known craft bourbon distillery.
All are fully checked and ready tu fill.

Deep garnet-purple colored, it exudes vibrant notes of crushed blueberries, baked plums, and blackcurrant cordial.Hints of bouquet garni, underbrush, clove oil, and cast-iron pan are also present.Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a sturdy frame of firm, grainy tannins. It supports muscular black fruits, finishing earthy.
This wine is not a second wine as it comes from a dedicated part of the vineyard. harvested very small berries, the ratio of skin to juice was high。ust enough freshness to lift the dense fruit to a long finish.
Not sure if I’ve let you in on this little gem, but my other half and I own a winery in the beautiful Prince Edward County.
Let’s talk about the magic of barreling white wines, shall we? It's like giving wine a spa treatment—except in oak barrels, and what comes out is even better than what went in.
Barreling white wine isn’t just a process; it’s an art. When you let white wine snuggle up in oak, it does something truly fabulous. The oak not only whispers sweet nothings to the wine but imparts complex flavors that turn a simple sip into a symphony. We're talking hints of vanilla, a touch of spice, and if the wine's been really soaking it all in, a whisper of toasted almond.
And let’s talk body. Barreling gives white wine a richer, more voluptuous texture. You know that silky, creamy feel that makes your palate swoon? That’s the barrel working its magic. The wine goes in young and spirited and comes out wise, rounded, and oh-so-smooth.
Visually? It’s like watching the glow-up of the century. Barreled whites can take on a gorgeous golden hue that promises opulence before you even take your first sip.
So next time you pour yourself a glass of barreled white, remember, you’re not just drinking wine, you're experiencing a masterpiece sculpted by time and oak. Cheers to that, right?

Blending. It’s an art form of some description and requires imagination, thought, and the ability to see into the future. You start with the building blocks. Different varieties, from different plots, fermented and/or stored differently. Then you start to construct them together to build a ladder, or perhaps some kind of Stairway (tenuous I know). Given the Angelic nomenclature of this wine, it seemed suitable to once again commit 2 of the guitarists Seven Deadly Sins: not only did I play Stairway, I massacred it. I’ll let the six string courts hand down their punishment.
Back to blending. I was delighted to be asked to join All Angels Vineyard today to blend their 2023 Rosé and 2023 Classic Cuvée. It all started with a review of 2023, mainly to understand the acid and phenolic profiles of the base wines. Following this was a tasting of all the base components we had to play with.
Once we’d tasted, and retasted the base materials, we could set about compiling something more complete. It’s amazing how each wine contributes to a blend, but also changes in relation to the wines around it. This is delicate, nuanced work. So, no idea why I was involved. Over the course of a few hours we found a wonderful blend for the rosé. The Classic Cuvée came more quickly; it was assembled almost perfectly first time around.
It’s fascinating to gain an insight into wines when they’re so young, and then wonderful to have the opportunity to watch them develop and evolve. I can’t wait to see how they turn out…but I’ll have to as they’re a good few years away from completion yet.
Of course, the wine I’m now drinking isn’t from today (I haven’t yet perfected time travel despite the…I won’t go into it). I was very kindly sent a bottle of the 2018 sparkling rosé at Christmas and this seemed the perfect time to open it. It’s fresh and vibrant, with a stylish nectarine and peach core, surrounded by soft summer berries and hints of pastry and crumble.
All Angels have been kind to me over the years, and I remain a fan of them and their wines. Check ‘em out. Apologies to messrs Plant & Page et al.

Comfortably the two most sought after releases of the Icons campaign:
Masseto 2020 and Massetino 2021. The former, described by Georgina Hindle as a " truly delicious wine with so much purity and sense of place" boasts 100 -point scores from @decanter and @thedrinksbusiness and 99-point scores from @lisapbmw @thewineindependent and @james.suckling
Massetino meanwhile has earned its highest @wine_advocate rating (96 points) from @monicalarner tied with its inaugural vintage (2017).
Both wines were showing beautifully @cvbg_bordeaux tasting, the increased percentage of Cabernet Franc in both wines playing an important part in their evolution of both aromatics and structure.
For such prized wines we prioritise past buyers but try to carve out a small allocation for new requests each year. Why not get in touch if you'd like to secure some?

Donut wines...
are wines that have nice flavors and aromas, but a hole exists where the mid-palate should be.
Luckily, donut wines can be avoided by simply using oak, specifically our new Foundation Toast.
