Last March 21, I was invited by the Senate Committee on Ways and Means to discuss the House Bill No. 8937 on Enhancing the Fiscal Regime of the Mining Industry, as Chairman of the Chamber of Mines of the Philippines. The hearing was spearheaded by Chair of the Sub-Committee on Rationalization of the Mining Fiscal Regime, Senator Sonny Angara. As I mentioned at the hearing, we look forward to the passage of a tax law that will not only help boost our nation’s revenue coffers but, equally important, will align our sector with the Marcos Administration’s thrust of tapping the minerals development industry in the global effort towards renewable energy transition in response to climate change.
