Across the first three quarters of 2023, Denmark's startups drummed up just over $1bn in VC cash — and there's plenty of early-stage talent that investors are excited about. 🇩🇰 Here are the startups that investors at Climentum Capital, byFounders and Novo Holdings are keeping an eye on. 👗 Rodinia Generation uses a combination of innovative dye-printing and fabric-cutting technologies for the production of clothes, helping companies make exactly the amount of stock they need and eliminate the waste caused by overproduction. 🦠 ALGIECEL has developed a container-sized photo-bioreactor, which takes captured CO2 and uses it as a feedstock to grow and harvest microalgae, from which it extracts valuable proteins and omega-3 rich products. ⚡️ Reel monitors energy usage to find the best offer on the market and allows customers to purchase electricity directly from a new solar or wind park. 💊 SOLID Therapeutics is working to develop a new drug treatment for solid tumours found in cancers. Massive opportunity here in Sheffield to be a magnet for start ups. Policy makers need to get ahead of the growth curve if we are to sustain the momentum and create the space for scale up and growth. We cannot afford to lose really great companies to other regions, and in some cases, to other countries: the US remains a very attractive venue for firms on the scale up launch pad. Great work from Tom Wolfenden and the Sheffield Technology Parks team for somehow turning their space into a Tardis. Big opportunity/need here to have a dedicated AMID/tech innovation corridor running through a re-born city centre like a central nervous system.

#SuccessStory: RWTH spin-off cylib raises €55 million Series A funding | With their cutting-edge technology developed at RWTH Aachen University, the team has scored the largest investment round ever raised by a European battery recycling company and is now set to advance the industrialization of its proprietary battery recycling technology. Less than 24 months after launching operations, cylib has closed a €55 million Series A funding round in equity financing, co-led by the leading European climate tech VC World Fund, and Porsche Ventures, and joined by Bosch Ventures, DTCF | DeepTech & Climate Fonds, NRW.BANK's venture arm NRW.Venture, existing investors Vsquared Ventures, Speedinvest, 10x Founders, and established business angels. cylib is a spin-off from RWTH Aachen University, founded by Lilian Schwich, Paul Sabarny, and Dr. Gideon Schwich. In 2022, the team decided to translate nearly a decade of research at the IME Process Metallurgy and Metal Recycling into a start-up with a patent-pending technology, which is also backed by RWTH as a virtual shareholder. Less than two years later, the spin-off is not just an integral part of our local #Aachen start-up ecosystem, having launched the #BatteryCircleAachen together with fellow Aachen-based battery start-ups; the start-up’s impact is also recognized on the national level, with CEO and co-founder Lilian being one of the Top 3 Female Newcomers at the #GermanStartupAwards2024. We received over 530 proposals from 42 countries, highlighting the global startup community's strong interest and potential in addressing industrial business needs. Currently, we are reviewing these proposals with key decision-makers and technical experts from our industrial companies. Following brief follow-up interviews with the shortlisted startups, the top solution providers will be invited for in-person discussions. In the spotlight 💡 [6/10] TIBO EnergyHub software is one of the ten winners of the Gerard & Anton Awards 2023. Innovation Origins wrote about the results, growth and challenges of this startup. Manage network congestion, manage contract limits, reduce CO2 emissions, and reduce energy costs: Tibo Energy’s goals are as clear as they are desirable. The company was founded in 2021 by a group of visionary founders with deep technical expertise and a shared mission.
