Today, Governor Kay Ivey of Alabama enacted SB129. This legislation prohibits public schools from allocating funds to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives. In light of this development, several individuals have expressed their concerns to me, with some advising caution. I wish to clarify that my endeavors are not rooted in divisiveness but are firmly anchored in the principles of inclusion. This entails a collective effort to support the perspectives and beliefs of others, while acknowledging our inherent differences. It is not our place to alter the sentiments or convictions of another on contentious subjects. My role is to facilitate superior communication by fostering a culture of listening with the intent to understand, rather than merely to reply or take offense without fully grasping the underlying reasons. My faith empowers me to illuminate the path for others, cultivating an atmosphere where every individual feels listened to, appreciated, and cherished for their unique contributions. You are all beloved and significant, irrespective of your political, religious, or racial views, sexual orientation, gender, or disabilities. My mission is to guide us in embracing our variances, which define us as the exemplar of unity that the United States embodies. https://lnkd.in/eX2cieg8

Steve Stewart-Williams has selected his favourite 10 quotes from Thomas Sowell. The first stands out as a perennial: “It is amazing how many people think that they can answer an argument by attributing bad motives to those who disagree with them. Using this kind of reasoning, you can believe or not believe anything about anything, without having to bother to deal with facts or logic.” This point makes up a good deal of my dicussion with Jeffery Wang in our 10 Lessons Learned conversation on leadership: https://lnkd.in/gzvXhcts.

Presentation skills consultant who elevates the presence and expands the influence of professionals, and promotes inclusion in their organizations
As someone who competed in collegiate debate and lost many rounds and won few tournaments, I love this article. It's a great reminder that you can't lose when you participate in speech competitions. You always gain experience, get insights into what works and what doesn't, and (evidenced by Brooklynn's move in the last line of the article) build resilience. If you are competing in a #publicspeaking competition in your work or personal life, contact us about getting support from a Spoken with Authority coach so you can achieve a personal best #presentation. We can also help your organization host speaking a #showcase (at a conference or part of a training program) or a #competition (at a retreat, leadership or business-development bootcamp, or all-hands meeting).
It was her last shot at winning a notable speech contest. Could she do it?

Associate Dean, Academic & Student Services and Strategic Initiatives; Director, Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law Program at University of Miami School of Law
It is always a treat to have the great Dov Seidman, Founder and Chairman The HOW Institute for Society; Founder and Chairman LRN and author of HOW: Why HOW We Do Anything Means Everything, join us University of Miami School of Law in our Playbook for Leadership and the Law Class led by Marc Trestman. Dov always leaves an indelible mark on our class teaching the importance of scaling moral leadership. One of my favorite lessons from Dov, that I keep close, is TRIP: If you want Progress you need to Innovate, if you want to Innovate you need to take Risks, in order to take Risks, you need Trust. That spells out TRIP - Trust leads to Risk taking, which leads to Innovation, which leads to Progress. Thank you, Dov, for your immense contributions to society and for always giving your valuable time to our school and students. Your life's work is more important now than ever! #leadership #lawschool #moralleadership

"Transformative practices start with clear processes and protocols." - Dr. Jennifer Cheatham 🔎 In our recent episode of "Decoding Leadership," Dr. Jennifer Cheatham delves into the challenges of evaluations across various professions, with a particular focus on addressing discipline as a system of oppression within districts. Her insights provide invaluable advice for school and district leaders on goal setting, reporting progress, and fostering a shared evaluation process. 💡 Three key lessons emerge from this thought-provoking conversation: 1️⃣ Helping the board understand the superintendent's job 2️⃣ Gaining feedback from stakeholders 3️⃣ Reducing the public nature of the evaluation 📚 Jen shares her experience as superintendent in Madison, WI, where she focused on improving outcomes for all students, with a specific emphasis on tackling the disproportionate use of suspensions and expulsions of Black students. By implementing restorative justice practices, she and her team worked towards creating a safe and inclusive environment. 🗣️ Vulnerability plays a crucial role in building trust and gaining insight. Jen emphasizes the importance of involving teachers and students in decision-making processes, engaging in school-based inquiry, and fostering community involvement before implementing major policy changes. 🌟 Let's embrace imperfect leadership as a badge of honor and join this recent episode to continue exploring the journey towards reflective and transformative practices. Your presence matters! 💪 #LeadershipJourney #TransformativePractices #InclusiveEducation #ReflectiveLeadership https://lnkd.in/gtb7gVx8
