McKinsey's  latest #CFO survey "CFOs tend to say they are looking beyond short-term concerns in a way they haven’t in previous years. Most finance leaders cite strategic planning and long-term resource allocation and planning as top finance priorities, and much more often than they did in their 2023 survey.  And while few CFOs say their finance functions have digitized their processes at scale or have adopted generative AI (gen AI), nearly all of them believe that GenAI has the potential to create value  in myriad ways, from helping finance employees move away from manual analysis to improving leadership and strategy support." https://mck.co/4cJ0PXl

It’s promising to see CFOs incorporating tech-related value drivers into long-term planning for their organisations, according to this article by McKinsey. When asked about the most useful applications of #GenAI in finance, CFOs highlighted areas like #strategy and #leadership support, #InsightGeneration, and #CompetitorInsightsMonitoring over traditional financial controlling and general accounting. This underscores AI’s potential to add strategic value beyond mere process automation. It plays to the strengths of #LLMs for insight generation while avoiding their limitations in numerical and mathematical reasoning. Some key stats from the article: - 98% of CFOs surveyed report investments in #digitisation and #automation. - Less than a quarter of their processes are actually digitised or automated. - Only 20% of CFOs report the use of GenAI tools, with nearly half still in pilot and experimental phases. According to the CFOs surveyed, the main challenges to capturing tech-related value in finance are organisational. These include already-demanding workloads of finance teams, lack of relevant capabilities, insufficient resources to invest in digital tools, and inadequate IT infrastructure.
