On Tuesday 17th October, the CEVSOC Development team (Dominic Ung, Arjuna Edirisinghe, Paul B., Olivia Bourke, Sissi Zhu, Anushka Sharma) hosted Closing Night of the 2023 CEVSOC Industry Mentoring Program, bringing an end to the program for the year. Mentees were provided with the opportunity to evaluate their individual progress and achievements during the program and consult their mentors for further development opportunities beyond the program. Both individual and group reflection sessions were conducted to improve the connections with all the mentees and mentors during the night. On behalf of the students of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Faculty of UNSW, we would like to thank the mentors for the CEVSOC Industry Mentoring program for taking the time to provide students with guided tips and advice. Also, we would also like to thank all the mentees who took part in the Industry Mentoring program over the last four months, and we hope you all benefitted from the program.

Reflecting on Four Years of WSU Advisory Board Service Following my return home from Pullman, I’ve been reflecting on my time serving on the Advisory Board for the Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) Department at Washington State University (WSU) over the past four years. This has been an incredibly rewarding experience, and has allowed me to contribute to the department's advancement, support its mission, and collaborate with fellow board members, faculty, and students in the following ways: -Supporting Innovation: Promoting cutting-edge research and development within the CEE department. -Enhancing Education: Advocating for initiatives that enrich the learning experience and prepare students for successful careers. -Fostering Connections: Strengthening ties between academia and industry to create opportunities for students and faculty. Serving on the board has provided me with invaluable insights into the future of our industry. I’ve become acutely aware of the challenges that college leadership, faculty, staff, and students face, especially post-COVID. There are no easy remedies in this environment, but I am excited to continue this journey and contribute to shaping the future of civil and environmental engineering education. #WSU #CivilEngineering #EnvironmentalEngineering #AdvisoryBoard #EngineeringExcellence #Pullman #GoCougs

There's growing evidence that volunteerism and giving back can improve your quality of life. I thought about that as I read my client Caleb's post on his work on an Alumni Advisory Board at Washington State University. His give back is to help the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department stay closely aligned with the needs in the marketplace. Caleb has done this for the last 4 years! Read up on what his Advisory Board has provided; it's impressive. Here's the coaching question: "what could you volunteer to do?" #Volunteerism # #CareerSuccess #CareerCoaching

Air Quality and Cleaner Production Intern at RSS | Chemical Engineer | Project Assistant | Research Assistant
A few months ago, I had the honor of training for 60 hours on industrial waste water purification techniques for olive oil presses. This wonderful course included four industrial field visits, from which I learned a lot, and a lot from professional professors from Jordan and the UK, whom I had the pleasure of learning from. The course was titled "𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒔𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑺𝒚𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒎𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 𝑷𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑 𝑰𝒎𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒅 𝑶𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝑴𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝑾𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑾𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒘𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝑴𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒈𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑪𝒊𝒓𝒄𝒖𝒍𝒂𝒓 𝑬𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒐𝒎𝒚 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑨𝒓𝒊𝒅 𝑹𝒆𝒈𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒋𝒆𝒄𝒕 𝑵𝒖𝒎𝒃𝒆𝒓 𝑻𝑷𝑺1306". And under the supervision of Al-Balqa' Applied University BAU, De Montfort University, Royal Academy of Engineering, HANANIA Energy, and Industrial Research And Development Fund - IRDF. #wastewatertreatment #training #development #entrepreneurship #environment #circulareconomy #intergration #uk

Project Engineer, Safeguard (Env. and Social) Practitioner, Procurement Engineer, Environmental Engineer
Attended an insightful webinar organized by ICE South East England - Early Careers Network on UN Sustainable Development Goals on August 16, 2023. Measuring the Ambitious Goals: Understanding how to measure the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), comprising 169 targets and 231 indicators, is essential. This comprehensive framework guides our global efforts toward a more sustainable future. To become a qualified Chartered Engineer, it's crucial to play a professional and responsible role in projects that support sustainable development and reduce resource demand. This responsibility extends across the entire project life cycle. Focus Areas for Civil Engineers: Civil engineers can make a significant impact in three unique areas: a. Carbon Measurement for Infrastructure: Implementing strategies to reduce carbon emissions in infrastructure projects. b. Enhancing Capabilities, Skills, and Codes Related to Carbon: Staying updated with the latest practices and codes related to carbon reduction. c. Adopting Carbon Systems Thinking: Considering the bigger picture of how carbon impacts various aspects of a project. One of the most important insights from the webinar was that sometimes, achieving one development goal can inadvertently compromise progress towards others. It's a reminder to always consider the broader impact on remaining development goals when working toward a specific objective. Let's keep striving for a sustainable and inclusive future! #SustainableDevelopment #SDGs #EngineeringForChange #ICE #SLAICE #lifeonpurpose with Charitha Handagala
