👀 SAMBA in Rolling Motion 🦾 🚀 One goal of the grant-supported project ACoSaLUS was to further optimize our patch placement process. In order to implement an end-to-end automated lay-up process for #composite sandwich parts, we have further developed our #FiberPatchPlacement technology during this joint project and are able to place first skin patches directly onto the strongly curved tool. ⚡ We optimized our placement process with a post-placement push by our gripper for additional compaction of the patch on the complex surface. This feature solves first-layer adhesion problems and allows automating the production with #FPP for legacy tools. 💡 Additionally, we enhanced our Rolling Motion movement of the robot. Rolling Motion is a movement of the 6-axis robot to place patches precisely on highly complex, convex shaped surfaces. The movement of the placement robot follows a curve with a different normal for each point of the curve. To support this accurate placement, our gripper has been improved as well and now features enhanced vacuum & blow off controls. LIMITED visited our offices and our project partner manroland web produktionsgesellschaft mbH to learn more about the current project status of the SAMBA Pro PV system which will be shipped to Japan. SAMBA Pro PV is based on the fully automated Fiber Patch Placement system, and designed to place fiber patches directly on domes of composite tanks to reduce material, weight and manufacturing costs while increasing storage volume for advanced H2 tank production. UK’s National Composites Centre NCC demonstrated how #FiberPatchPlacement can recycle up to 80% of dry fiber material from the earliest stages of high-performance #composite production in #aerospace manufacturing. Cevotec supported NCC in converting dry carbon #fiber waste into a precise patch laminate using our ARTIST STUDIO software for sustainable secondary feedstock to produce high-performance components. Last week we also were at Farnborough International Airshow, the leading show of the global aerospace industry. Special thanks to our partner Fuji Industries Corp for exhibiting our #FiberPatchPlacement solutions for composites. When it comes to production processes for upcoming aerostructure programs, manufacturers and engineers on site mainly addressed the automation of multi-material composites, scalability of production processes and the reduction of cut-offs. For current aircraft programs, the industry still relies heavily on parts that are produced manually at high production costs and with limited scalability. ❓How to accelerate existing aerostructures towards the above mentioned challenges? ➡ You can improve the production process by increasing the lay-up speed for composites with automated fiber patch placement.
