📚 Olivier Roy's latest book, 'The Crisis of Culture,' receives high praise in the Financial Times. Described by political scientist Ivan Krastev as "remarkable" and "illuminating", Roy's work offers a poignant analysis of our contemporary world, characterised by an unprecedented erosion of culture. In his book, Olivier Roy, Adjunct Professor at the EUI’s Florence School of Transnational Governance and Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies, argues that this phenomenon is due to a combination of factors such as #globalisation, technological advancements, and the blurring of traditional boundaries. What’s the future of #alternative #organization research? 🧐🧑🎓 These days, some of the coolest organization scholars in Europe are pondering this exact question at the EGOS (European Group for Organizational Studies) colloquium in Milan. We’ve had fascinating presentations on worker #cooperatives, militant #feminist networks, #refugee parliaments, independent political #parties, and much more. Views have been exchanged, tensions have been unearthed, and participants have pushed themselves and each other to move forward intellectually as well as politically. It’s been a huge pleasure convening a subtheme on alternative organization alongside the magnificent Genevieve Shanahan, Sara Dahlman, and Erik Mygind du Plessis. The main conclusion seems, quite surprisingly, to be that we more than ever need research on alternatives within organization studies and elsewhere. "The social turn in cultural policy, as we see it, should be viewed as an invitation for the new epistemic, theoretical and methodological approach to cultural research and cultural policymaking that recognises how diverse social actors and social issues affect culture and bring changes to how it is understood, practised and created. We would like to emphasise that there are important aspects of cultural practices that get overlooked and marginalised in cultural production and reception. These overlooked practices can significantly contribute to the social benefits that culture brings".

This relationship will be explored from several perspectives. Firstly historically, the rise and development of Neo-Calvinist socio-economic thought—roughly from “Groen to Goudzwaard,” but also in its international transmission in the 20th and 21st century—will be considered. Secondly philosophically and theologically, the question will be addressed how Neo-Calvinist thought on these issues should be evaluated. What is its use for contemporary challenges such as increasing inequality and climate change? About twenty presenters from institutions all over the world will present a short paper on a wide array of topics related to the conference theme.
