We’re excited to attend the 2024 World Maritime Forum event in Copenhagen, Denmark. This morning, Gareth Prowse, our Global Head of Decarbonisation, joined the ‘The Road to Zero: Accomplishments and Challenges’ panel debate.
Addressing the audience, Gareth presented some of our 2023 decarbonisation achievements. This includes our conversion of 60 UK tugboats from marine gas oil to low-carbon biofuels, the introduction of low-carbon biofuels in parts of our AMEA operations, and the 24% CO2 intensity reduction delivered across our global fleet.
While we’re on track to deliver on our long-term decarbonisation targets, Gareth highlighted several challenges obstructing the continued decarbonisation of our industry. This includes the price and availability of low-carbon biofuels, the absence of proven methanol single or dual fuel engine technology for tug operating profiles, and the continued need to invest in carbon-insetting solutions to reduce customers’ scope 3 emissions.
