Did you know there are roughly 60.9 internal combustion engine (ICE) fires for every EV fire? And that 44% of EV fires happen while parked and/or charging? Recently, The Eastern Transportation Coalition joined our partners from MATOC to host an EV Incident Response Symposium. 150 emergency response and DOT personnel from the eastern U.S. convened at the University of Maryland to discuss new tactical considerations and risks in response to EV incidents, challenges, training gaps, and more. We heard from industry leaders Robert S. (Retired NTSB investigator and owner of HowItBroke.com) and Andrew Klock (NFPA), as well as leaders from fire/rescue and law enforcement agencies, the towing industry, DOTs and transit authorities. A great deal of information was shared, giving incident responders, roadway owners, and transit operators a lot to think about as we see an increasing number of EVs on our roadways. Both HowItBroke.com and NFPA.org have resources available for those looking to learn more.
