METAL ROOF MYTHS: Metal roofs attract lightning strikes… Metal roofing is no more likely to attract a lightning strike than any other type of roofing material. The reality is that a properly installed metal roof may actually be an advantage if a home is struck by lightning.

Why carbon spring steel wires need Lead bath quenching? Let's check it together. Isothermal lead quenching of steel wire involves heating the wire to a temperature above the critical temperatures AC3 and Acm, holding it at a certain temperature for a specific period to fully austenitize it, then rapidly quenching it in molten lead, followed by a soaking period, and finally air cooling to fully decompose the supercooled austenite into a fine pearlite—sorbite structure. #carbonsteel #steelwire #springsteel

In addition to the ground investigation, there is other site and project related information, which needs consideration ⤵️ ➡️ Site constraints (demolition / enabling works, #earthworks, obstructions, #utilities, noise restrictions, etc). ➡️ Plant and personnel access (site access, working platforms, over water, poor surrounding soil, etc) ➡️ Design features (surcharge loading, #excavation, local pile attachments, end plates, etc.) ➡️ #Construction tolerances. #steelpiling #civilengineering
Whether the #steelpiles are being used for vertical support or as a retaining wall, forces induced into the piles will need to be resisted by the ground. Soft clay, for example, will provide considerably less resistance than a dense sandy gravel or stiff clay. #steelpiling

Wood is sensitive to splitting in the tangential direction. In other words, wood’s lowest tensile strength is in the tangential direction, followed by the radial direction. When a CLT panel is subjected to out-of-plane loading, planar stress occurs and causes rolling shear stress. Rolling shear is the result of the lower resistance of the wood lamination in the radial and tangential directions, inducing failure across the annual rings. #clt #clttips #crosslaminatedtimber #masstimberconstruction #rollingshearstress #corterodante #maderacontralaminada #canadianCLThandbook
