It’s Monday so we are proud to feature the Ohio Soybean Council/Ohio Soybean Association for this week's Member Monday! Committed to driving collaboration among industry leaders, They help ensure the success of the soybean industry for future generations through their innovative Soy Tomorrow program. This initiative brings together industry leaders and stakeholders to enhance the value of the soybean industry, providing access to current industry trends, cutting-edge research, and informative electronic newsletters. Soybeans are legumes related to clover, peas, and alfalfa. In Ohio, they are typically planted between April and June and harvested in October, with each plant producing up to 80 pods containing two to four beans. Soybeans are primarily grown for processing into meal and oil, with Ohio producing about 288 million bushels in 2018, accounting for approximately 6% of the nation's total soybean production. These versatile crops have hundreds of uses, ranging from food products like tofu and soy milk to industrial applications such as biodiesel and engine oil. Soybeans play a crucial role in providing feed for the livestock industry, with 97% of U.S. soybean meal going to feed pigs, poultry, and cattle. Additionally, soyfoods offer numerous health benefits, including reducing the risk of chronic diseases, and have become popular in American cuisine. Biodiesel, produced from soybean oil, is a clean-burning fuel that decreases the use of foreign oil and creates environmentally friendly jobs. It is always a pleasure collaborating with The Ohio Soybean Association in delivering the "Field to Package" workshop wherein teachers are exposed to new information and tools to utilize in the classroom as a means to inspire students to consider a future in food science! We look forward to continuing our collaboration with The Ohio Soybean Council, working together to advance the soybean and food industry into the future. #Soybeans #Quality #Innovation #MemberMonday #Community #Partnership
